Position overview & purposeThe Chemical Engineer, Materials, position will work to characterize, scale and industrialize the production chemical and materials preparation processes at Ambient Photonics' first manufacturing facility. This Chemical Engineer will play a large role in qualifying first article production equipment and processes, as well as establishing process control methodologies and practices. They will demonstrate leadership during the start-up phase, working closely with our R&D group. Ongoing duties will include process optimization, reduced process variation, and cost reduction.
Essential duties & responsibilities- Developing Manufacturing Processes: Creating processes that minimize waste and enhance the quality of finished products.
- Monitoring and Testing: Overseeing the incoming materials and product testing processes throughout all phases of production.
- Safety Procedures: Developing and implementing safety procedures for staff working with hazardous materials.
- Equipment Design: Designing, planning, and implementing the layout of manufacturing equipment to optimize production and reduce costs.
- Process Development: Conducting research to develop new and improved manufacturing processes.
- Cost Analysis: providing data for cost analysis reports, especially for chemical waste stream.
Knowledge, skills & abilities - Previous experience in process intensive manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge and ability to set up and qualify precision dispensing equipment.
- Knowledge of curing processes and temperature profiling.
- Knowledge of Reliability and Accelerated Life Testing methodologies.
- Project management skills.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with SPC, DOE, PFMEA process improvement methodologies.
- Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously.
Basic qualifications & competencies - B.S. degree in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry.
- A minimum of 2-5 years relevant work experience in Chemical Engineering.
- Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S., Ambient Photonics does not provide visa sponsorship.
Preferred qualifications & competencies - Industrial experience in similar position in a manufacturing environment such as PCBA, photovoltaics, IC, or hard disk.
- Direct experience with screen printing process ownership.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
Physical demands and working environment - Prolonged periods sitting at a desk or working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift to <50 pounds .
- Occasional prolonged periods of standing .
