Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Direct public to the proper unloading areas for yard waste, trees, brush, appliances, electronics, scrap iron items, and solid waste items at yard waste center.
Directs consumers to the mulch and compost areas for loading of material at yard waste center.
Directs public to the proper placement of sorted recyclables at the recycling center.
Assists people as needed with the unloading of items and answers questions.
Receives payment for solid waste or large, bulky items and keeps daily records of these items received.
Walks the work area regularly to locate and sort out misplaced materials. Keeps work area clean and orderly, including sweeping the floor as needed.
Operates compacting equipment at the recycling center.
Communicate with sanitation foreman or Public Services Center (PSC) office in person, by two-way radio, and by phone.
Completes daily reports.
Performs minor maintenance and clean-up in and around buildings which includes but is not limited to shoveling snow and picking up trash.
Performs minor tasks for staff at Public Services Center.
Other duties as assigned.

Must have the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize workload in a timely and effective manner.
Must be able to communicate effectively using both written and oral methods.

Education and Experience

Physical, Mental, and Visual Effort

Regularly communicates with others through speaking and listening.
Requires close vision and the ability to adjust focus; also requires some distant vision.
The language demands in this job are most characterized by understanding and following oral or demonstrated instructions; writing identifying information.
Must be able to use simple math and make correct money transactions.
Regularly required to handle, grasp, throw, stand, walk, speak, see, and hear.
Frequently required to lift and carry.
Occasionally required to pull and reach.
Must be able to exert fifty (50) to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or twenty-five (25) to fifty (50) pounds of force frequently, and/or ten (10) to twenty (20) pounds of force on a regular basis to move lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

Working Conditions

Regularly works indoors; occasionally works outdoors; Regular exposure to heat and cold.
Occasional exposure to hazard from moving objects.
This position is classified as being at risk to bloodborne exposures is advised to follow the City of Waverly's Hepatitis B vaccination protocol
