Job DescriptionAre you looking to work with a multi-disciplined team of engineers and scientists to support laboratory work with direct fleet impact We have an exciting opportunity in our Chemistry Equipment & Programs Unit located within our Chemistry Technology subdivision which support the laboratories' chemicals and chemistry equipment program for U.S. Navy aircraft carriers and submarines.
Some of the responsibilities include:
o Manage environmental waste program for laboratories (advise on processes, create waste documents (Process Evaluation Lists (PELs or equivalent)), respond to emergent waste situations, coordinate disposal of unused chemicals, and establish Site Accumulation Areas (SAAs) for hazardous waste generation and support surveillances).
o Maintain training program for all chemistry labs (including updates to documentation and comparing with changes to governing documents).
o Conduct trend analysis, audits, accident investigations, and inspections of operational procedures, facility design, equipment, and materials for laboratories.
o Maintain all laboratory documentation and assist with revisions (Job Hazard Analyses, lab procedures, spill procedures, discharge procedures, PELs) in accordance with local, State and Federal requirements.
o Meet with managers and Subject Matter Experts to assess compliance performance and recommend resources or skills needed to supplement Chemistry Technology team and/or implement corrective actions as determined necessary.
o Provide compliance consultation to resolve complex problems requiring considerable investigation, analysis, and creativity to resolve. Serve as the recognized expert throughout the multiple Environmental Safety and Health areas of cognizance.
o Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary to ensure personnel and facility safety.
o Efficiently work on multiple tasks concurrently and have a strong drive to resolve questions and complete tasks in a timely manner. Willing and able to respond to changes to task assignments and priorities based on emergent issues and system needs.
Required Combination of Knowledge and SkillBachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 2 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously NPE qualified; or CTE/ACRS and 1 year EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Watch Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and 1 year as SRE.
Preferred Skillso Excellent oral and written communication.
o Minimum of 3.0 cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale, demonstrating academic excellence in core (engineering/science) courses.
o Experience with waste characterization and disposition, including waste qualifications (Waste Chemical Representative or equivalent)

Pay Range$83,600.00 - $130,700.00 annually
