The City of Monroe has a population of 36,392, and is the county seat of Union County. The historic Victorian Courthouse, built in 1886, sits magnificently atop a central square and draws attention from every direction. To the north lie County and City government buildings - to the south, quaint downtown shops, restaurants and businesses. Several fountains and small park areas are part of the downtown landscape. A thriving Highway 74 Corridor is where most major restaurants, hotels, and shopping are found. The City of Monroe is also home to the Charlotte-Monroe Executive Airport.
The City of Monroe operates under a Council-Manager form of government. The City Council sets policies and enacts ordinances, which are carried out under the City Manager's direction. The City Council is comprised of an elected Mayor and six council members. The City has approximately 500 Full-time and 200 Part-Time employees within the following department: Administration, Communications and Tourism, Downtown and Facilities Maintenance, Economic Development, Energy Services, Engineering, Finance, Fire Department, Information Technology, Parks and Recreation, Planning, Police Department, and Water Resources.

GENERAL DEFINITION AND CONDITIONS OF WORK
Performs intermediate technical and professional work promoting membership in Aquatics and Fitness Center; does related work as required. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Aquatics and Fitness Center Director. Supervision is exercised over subordinate personnel.
This is light work requiring the exertion of up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects; work requires standing, walking, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, operation of machines, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS
Planning, organizing, supervising and promoting membership in the aquatic and fitness center; advising the director on enterprise matters; preparing and maintaining appropriate records and files. Develops and implements recruitment and marketing plans; represents and promotes the aquatic center at public speaking events; Develops relationships with area businesses and actively recruits corporate accounts; Develops membership recruitment and retention goals; Creates marketing brochures and flyers. Recommends for hire, trains, supervises, and schedules front desk staff. Coordinates front desk operations. Supervises Membership Specialist and office assistants. Produces guidelines and processes for handling member cancellations and freezes. Assists with front desk operations; answers phones, answers customers questions and complaints; receives receipts, accounts for fees; conducts facility tours; assists with the development of front desk and member guidelines and procedures. Researches and recommends information systems purchases. Assists in the ordering of supplies and equipment. Performs related tasks as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Thorough knowledge of the philosophies, principles and practices of program membership marketing; thorough knowledge of aquatics and fitness programming; ability to efficiently supervise staff, schedule and coordinate use of facilities; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and members and the community; ability to prepare reports; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in marketing, advertising or related field and moderate experience in marketing.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to obtain Automated External Defibrillation (AED), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Basic First Aid Instructor certifications within 6 months of hire date. Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina
