Job Description:
JOB DUTIES: Collect, process, summarize and interpret fish population data and angler harvest data; evaluate physical, chemical and biological characteristics of fish habitats following Fisheries Division sampling
guidelines and using accepted scientific and statistical procedures. Collect and analyze data for formulation of management plans and development of specific waterbody (reservoirs, sandhill lakes, ponds, sandpits, streams) goals and objectives. Plan and implement aquatic habitat and angler access improvement projects. Assist with fish stocking and in collection of broodstock fish for production purposes. Provide technical assistance of fisheries habitat and management to private landowners. Prepare technical reports and maintain records. Maintain equipment including boats, motors, trailers and other sampling gear. Perform related work as required.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND three years experience in fish or wildlife management or a closely related field; OR Master's degree in fish or wildlife management or closely related field or equivalent experience in the field of biological science AND one year experience in fish and wildlife management or a closely related
field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: Extensive knowledge of fisheries and aquatic habitat management principles, goals and objectives; fish species; life history and habitat needs; research, statistics, and record keeping systems; and conservation statutes and regulations as they relate to fisheries management. Ability to communicate effectively; set goals and objectives; perform heavy physical labor and work outdoors for long periods of time; operate and perform maintenance on boats, motors, fish sampling equipment and electro fishing gear; work with little supervision; develop and maintain professional relations with a broad range of agencies and publics.
