The Department of Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering is searching for a Visiting Research Specialist to conduct research on tissue engineering by providing hands-on leadership in the design, synthesis, and optimization of biomaterials in support of ongoing regenerative medicine (bone/bone marrow, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, brain cancer) projects in the Harley laboratory.
Duties & Responsibilities- Coordination of researech operations (ordering, maintenance, scheduling, training)
- Performing individual laboratory research projects as assigned by the PI
- Supervision of undergraduate researchers (trainiing, coordination of research efforts)
- Collaborate with colleagues at various other institutions on research initiatives
- Manuscript preparation
- Assistance with preparation of grant proposals and annual report documents
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Materials Science or equivalent fields
- 2 years experience with biomaterial fabrication (porous scaffold, hydrogel)
- Experience in working on multidisciplinary projects with clinicians and academic partners
Preferred Qualifications- 2 years experience with evaluation of cell-biomaterial interactions via transcriptomic, signaling, and functional metrics
- Experience with supporting positive laboratory climate and culture
Successful Candidates Will Have- Ability to supervise others and mentor undergraduates
- Knowledge of Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, brain cancer, and bone regeneration research
- Exceptional organization, supervisory and communication skills to provide daily leadership for a laboratory research team
- Awareness of, and sensitivity to cultural and linguistic differences

Appointment InformationThis is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the deadline date. The budgeted salary range for the position is $42,500 - $47,500. Final salary offered will be determined by a thorough assessment of available market data, internal salary equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. This position will be expected to work at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus on a full-time basis per the University of Illinois workplace flexibility guidelines- https://cam.illinois.edu/policies/hr-87-2/. Sponsorship for Work authorization is not available for this position.
