FLSA Status: Non-exempt
Hours: Seasonal (Monday - Friday; 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
Pay Rate: $16.25/hour
Summary: Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is seeking a Seasonal Grounds Horticulturist. Under the direct supervision of the Horticulture Grounds Supervisor and Lead, this position is a general grounds maintenance position with a primary responsibility of turf and landscape management.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
- Provide manual labor in turf management at the Zoo including mowing, weed trimming and manual weed control.
- Weekly watering on non-irrigated areas, fertilization, pest, disease and weed management as directed.
- Provide manual labor for the care and maintenance of all trees, shrubs and perennials in Rosenblatt Zone.
- Provide manual labor in support of other areas on the horticulture depart as necessary.
- Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:- Experience in commercial landscape maintenance.
- Possession of a current and valid drivers license is required upon employment.
- Experience in operating commercial mowing, trimming, and general maintenance equipment.
- Identification on the most common species of trees, shrubs and perennials.
- General knowledge of the most common species of trees, shrubs and perennials.
- Familiar with common pest, disease and weed identification.
- Understanding basic record keeping.
- Nebraska pesticide applicators license is a plus.
- Horticulture degree is a plus.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:- Work is normally performed in an outside work environment and in all types of weather.
- Physical effort required including the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- This position may require flexible hours to accommodate the campus environment with minimal disruption to our guests.
