Responsibilities: This position is accountable for environmental compliance oversight of hazardous waste, universal waste, stormwater/clean water act, air emissions/permits/clean air act, petroleum and chemical bulk storage tank program areas. Responsibilities include the submittal of annual regulatory reports, written guidance and technical assistance for violations/consent orders and develops environmental policy instructions.
The position oversees the quarterly Large Quantity Hazardous Waste Generator (LQG) audits, Environmental Compliance Reviews (ECRs), assists on EPA/NYS DEC regulatory inspections and provides technical support to NYCT/MTA Departments regarding environmental compliance & policy concerns.
Contract management duties include hazardous waste and regulated medical waste transport/storage/disposal, liquid/solid sampling and analysis for waste characterization, mercury lamp recycling and environmental consulting services.
Candidates must be available for emergency response duties and possess a valid driver's license.
Education and Experience: - A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in physical, chemical, biological or environmental science; plus, five (5) years of satisfactory full-time experience in environmental health/sciences of which at least three (3) years shall have been in a managerial/supervisory capacity ; or
- A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience.
Desired Skills: The successful candidate must have experience with regulatory compliance and detailed working knowledge of Federal environmental laws and regulations, especially those concerning hazardous substances, and familiarity with related New York State and City environmental laws and regulations. Experience with environmental management systems (implementation and maintenance) is desired. Excellent oral communications and writing skills required.
