SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:Responsible for directing a staff and the efficient and effective operation of the EH&S (Environmental, Health, & Safety) team within the Facilities Maintenance
Essential Job Functions- Manages staff and their respective teams, establishing standards and effectively select, train, motivate, delegate, monitor and evaluate performance to ensure targets and goals are met. Recommends selection, discipline, and termination. Facilitates professional development and serves as coach and mentor.
- Oversees and monitors all aspects of EHSC operations including contracts and budgets; work order management, distribution, and completion; customer service / satisfaction; and resource management.
- Assists in the development of a departmental budget and operates within said budget.
- Responsible for managing all fire/life safety contracts, including the bid process, required board documentation, contract budget tracking and timely contract renewals.
- 5. Stays abreast of applicable Codes for regulatory changes, guidelines and compliance for all the skilled trades that work on Life Safety systems. Includes standards involving: the installation of sprinklers, warm air heating, air-conditioning and ventilations systems, the inspection, testing and maintenance of water based fire protection systems, the standards for wet and dry chemical extinguishing, ventilation control, fire protection of commercial cooking operations, and smoke control systems, the national electrical Code, national fire alarm and signaling Code, life safety Code, international building Code and international fire Code.
- 6. Manages the Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) management program. This includes creating/maintaining an asbestos location inventory for all buildings.
- Manages the Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) apparent mold growth (AMG) identification and remediation processes.
- Works closely with the Office of Risk Management to repair compliance issues including but not limited to items related to fire/life safety.
- 9. Coordinates and manages all environmental, health, safety, and compliance related emergency activities. Responds to emergency situations 24/7/365 to resolve immediate concerns in any areas.
- 10. Manages and assists in the preparation and maintenance of a variety of narrative and statistical reports, records, correspondence, and files related to all services, activities, and operations in areas of responsibility; provides for appropriate research and compiles reports as needed.
- 11. Executes the responsibilities according to lawful and ethical standards. Uses personal judgment and initiative to develop effective and constructive solutions to challenges and obstacles.
- 12. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed.
Minimum QualificationsGraduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant area, or equivalent plus an additional 5 years related experience or equivalent for a total education/experience of 9 years. Specialized licenses, certifications or training preferred.
