Job DescriptionJOB PURPOSENevada Gold Mines is looking for an Environmental professional to join the Carlin Environmental Department as a Compliance, Permitting, and Closure Specialist. The successful candidate will perform a variety of technical and administrative work to ensure that legal and other compliance obligations required by the Plans of Operations and Reclamation Permits are achieved.
RESPONSIBILITIESPrimary responsibilities and tasks:
- Plan and track reclamation and closure activities for the Carlin Complex.
- Prepare tentative and final plans for permanent closure for submittal to regulatory agencies.
- Participate in development and implementation of short and long term closure budgets and execution of budgeted closure projects.
- Manage contractors to ensure safe delivery of project objectives, including for construction activities associated with mine closure.
- Manage compliance and complete reporting as required by water pollution control permits for facilities in closure.
- Complete annual reports, three-year updates, and modifications for existing reclamation permits.
- Engage with regulatory personnel, including during routine inspections, as needed.
- Provide oversight for EIS/ROD/NAC Requirements for operations.
- Assist with training of NGM employees, contractors, and others.
- Responsible for periodic, after hours on-call response to environmental incidents.
- This position requires the ability to operate a light vehicle in off-road and/or inclement conditions.
- This position requires the ability to regularly walk over uneven, sloped, rocky, wet or icy ground and the ability to lift 40 or more pounds consistently and safely.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation - Bachelor's Degree in a physical or biological sciences, natural resources management, environmental engineering, or related field required
Experience - Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills required
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously required
- In-depth experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required
- Experience with GIS highly preferred
- Contractor management and budgeting experience preferred
- Experience in regulatory agency interactions preferred
- One to three years in a mining industry setting preferred
- Familiarity with compliance systems and ISO 14001 preferred
