Responsible for analyzing complex natural resource, environmental, regulatory, and management concerns. Will act as a team lead and will have increasing levels of responsibility and discretion related to the preparation, development, and implementation of harvest planning, timber sales, reforestation, and all aspects of forest management and operations of the timberland.
Essential Job functions/ Duties:- Accurately collects, processes, and analyzes forest inventory and GIS data including stands, roads, watercourses, and wildlife habitat.
- Ensures regulatory compliance regarding timber sales via timber marking, unit boundary flagging, and watercourse protection flagging.
- Assists with harvest planning and timber sale preparation including imagery interpretation, determining sale volume, mapping, unit boundary flagging, watercourse protection flagging, and other resource analysis, protection, and monitoring
- Administer timber sales to ensure regulatory and Company compliance. Duties include contract supervision to ensure log quality as specified in sales contract; Complete and submit government forms related to harvest operations; Act as a point person with government agencies related to timber harvest operations; Coordinate Road maintenance activities as needed.
- Assists in planning and implementing reforestation activities including site preparation, tree planting, plantation maintenance, contract supervision to ensure contract compliance, accurately complete and submit required government forms related to reforestation, and act as point of contact as needed with government agencies.
- Ensures adequate asset maintenance, performs preventative maintenance of issued equipment, preventative maintenance of vehicle, resource protection of timberlands.
- Interfaces with Customers and represents FGS in a professional and respectful manner.
- Participate in professional and industrial associations.
- Represents FGS on professional and industrial associations as well as community groups. Participates in public outreach for SFI.
- Safety - Adheres to all company safety standards.
- Participate in regular safety meetings.
- Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications (Education, Certifications/Licenses, and Experience:- 3 - 5 years Familiarity with U.S. west coast tree species, mensuration, and/or silviculture.
- Experience with maps, compass, GPS, and GIS is desirable.
- 4 Year BS degree in Forestry BS degree in Forestry or related field OR 3+ years' experience performing forestry duties
- Required valid driver's license and clean driving record.
- Possesses knowledge of State Forest Practice Rules and experience in harvest plan preparation and writing are preferred.
- Possesses computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office and ArcGIS software preferred.
- Ability to be detail oriented, self-motivated, and possess the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Ability to work with co-workers and management personnel in a professional manner.
- Ability to be physically able to perform required fieldwork.
- Possesses expertise in timber sale preparation, including silviculture, resource protection, mensuration, scaling practices, logging systems, wildlife biology, or GIS analysis.
- Experience with maps, aerial photography, compass, GPS, and GIS is desirable.
- Ability to drive 4-wheel drive vehicles in a variety of conditions including city, rural, and off-road and frequently driving 300 miles in a day.
- Ability to observe the environment and exercise situational awareness to ensure personal\personnel safety from potential dangers such as hazard trees, animals, and\or illegal activities.
