Description/Duties & Responsibilities
The City of Santa Clarita is currently recruiting for multiple part-time (PTS) employees to provide a wide range of support for the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center. Under the supervision and leadership of the Aquatics Supervisor and Coordinator, this position will work directly with the public front counter of the Santa Clarita Aquatic Center. This position may work up to 20 hours per week and must have the ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and some mornings as early as 5:00 a.m.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists with front counter operations, including greeting participants, answering phones and emails, providing general information on City programs and special events to members and the public
• Performs a wide variety of office and clerical duties as it relates to aquatics programming, special events, camps, and other areas of the division as assigned
• Utilizes computer software to register participants for City programs and process registration payments and memberships
• Maintains various forms, logs, files, and reports related to aquatics programming
• Works with staff to effectively provide quality recreation programs
• Processes monetary transactions, including cash, credit cards, and checks
• Attends meetings and training sessions as directed
• Follows and enforces City policies as they relate to the health, behavior, and safety of others
• Reports incidents and accidents in a timely manner
• Conducts daily opening and/or closing of facility
• Effectively addresses issues and concerns with patrons as they arise
• Tracks and maintains supply inventory
• Ensures safety of work area and remains aware of emergency procedures
• Organizes, prioritizes, and follows-up on assignments
• Works with other programs areas as requested
Education and Experience
• High school diploma or GED equivalent required
• One year of experience in recreation, community services, or other related public service experience
• Experience with cash handling and customer service is highly desirable
Knowledge and Abilities
• Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and positively, both orally and in writing
• Ability to organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner, for self and others
• Strong team player and the ability to work both independently and as part of a work group
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook and excellent typing skills
• Ability to learn and navigate a variety of recreation software as needed
• Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, early mornings (5:00 a.m.), weekends, and holidays
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to handle conflict, issues, and concerns with youth, teens, and parents
• Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines and be a creative problem solver
• Ability to observe safety principles and work in a safe manner
• Strong work ethic, proactive, and the ability to learn quickly
• Ability to lift, drag, and push files, paper, and equipment (up to 25 lbs.), is required occasionally

As a City of Santa Clarita public employee, you may be called upon to work as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW) in the event of an emergency (in accordance with Government Code §§ 3100-3109). Before entering upon the duties of employment, all public employees, except those excluded by law, take and subscribe to an oath or affirmation set forth in the California Constitution, declaring them to be Disaster Service Workers in time of need.
In addition, part-time, temporary, and seasonal (PTS) employees may be required to participate in the DMV Employer Pull-Notice Program. This program authorizes the City to receive a driver record report upon enrollment and during employment.
PTS workers are at-will. Generally, PTS employees are limited to no more than 999 hours.
