Description
The City of La Crosse is accepting applications for a full-time Maintenance Worker/Recycling to become an essential member of the Street Department team. The Street Department is responsible for the maintenance and repair of streets, snow removal, and oversees the refuse and recycling program. The individual in this position will work with a dedicated team of employees whose actions improve the lives of the citizens of La Crosse daily. This position will specifically focus on the Refuse/Recycling portion of the Street Department.
The purpose of this position is to operate the yard waste & brush site seasonally and assist office staff; along with working a variety of assigned duties for the maintenance of city streets. Incumbents will perform manual labor and operate a variety of equipment used in street maintenance such as trucks, snow removal equipment and hand and power tools. The work is performed under the supervision of a lead worker or supervisor.
Selected candidate subject to participation in DOT regulated random drug and alcohol program. Starting wage for this non-exempt position is $23.37 per hour (80 hours bi-weekly). Working hours for this position are Monday through Friday.
Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent, one to two years light equipment operating experience, or any combination of education and experience which provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities. A valid class B commercial driver's license (CDL) with airbrake and tanker endorsement required or ability to successfully obtain commercial driver's license/endorsements within 60 days on the job.

2) Pension (Wisconsin Retirement System-WRS) - Automatic enrollment for full-time positions. Eligibility for part-time positions varies by position and is determined by the number of hours and duration of the position. For eligible positions, contributions begin date of hire. Employer contributions are paid by the employer. Employees are required to pay 50% of the total WRS contribution rate for "general" employees. 2025 rate is 6.95% of pre-tax earnings.
