Job Summary
This position reports directly to the Director of Research Safety/Chemical Hygiene Officer, within the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) Research Safety Team. This position requires a combination of scientific expertise, practical laboratory experience including bench-level research experience, and a strong commitment to safety and compliance. The ideal candidate will be able to effectively communicate with researchers while implementing and enforcing necessary safety protocols. The position adapts best practices in laboratory and workplace safety to the specific needs of the Institute and will assist the Institute community by providing training, consultation, evaluations, and hazard assessments to reduce or eliminate laboratory and workplace conditions that may lead to injury or loss of Institute resources. Through regular laboratory reviews and incident investigations, identifies research safety and occupational health issues and formulates measures for mitigating hazards. May serve as Assistant Chemical Hygiene Officer and support the implementation of the Chemical Hygiene Plan as assigned.
This is a Campus Critical position. An employee designated as Campus Critical is expected to be aware of the campus emergency management plans and to report to Campus as soon as possible to assist in campus wide response and recovery efforts. An employee designated as essential reporting has essential job skills that are needed for disaster response and recovery and is expected to report to Campus as soon as possible.

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.
