Amazon is looking for a Business Manager to join the AWS Environmental Team. The Environmental Team supports sustainable data center development and operation by managing environmental risks, implementing standardized processes, and creating practical solutions. We foster strong partnerships through clear communication, enabling business growth while exceeding customer expectations in environmental performance. The team balances global standards with local flexibility, embedding environmental principles throughout all aspects of data center design, construction, and operation. Amazon offers a fast paced, fun, and exciting work environment. We continue to grow at exponential rates and are looking for individuals that can support our speed to market, enjoy a challenge, and have a desire for professional growth and continuous learning experiences.
As the Business Manager, you will partner with the Environmental Team leadership to set the near and long-term vision and direction for the team, and ensure alignment of this vision and direction with broader strategic planning. In addition, you will exercise deep expertise on all processes, variables, and tooling that impact appropriate resourcing. This includes (1) the various infrastructure drivers and metrics that impact headcount scaling; and (2) tooling that enables continuous audit to ensure parity between resourcing supply and demand. Further, as the Business Manager, you will exercise deep expertise on the key inputs that affect divisional hiring performance and productivity, as well as related metrics that enable performance measurement in these areas. The Business Manager must earn trust with partner teams such as Finance and multiple deployment teams in order to expand mechanisms and strategies beyond the Environmental team and ensure the full scope of needs are captured on behalf of the organization. In addition, as a key representative of the organization, the Business Manager must effectively interact with and earn trust from partners external to the organization. Such interactions may include arranging and facilitating events with senior executives to advance initiatives, coordinating business activities with partners in Talent Acquisition and Human Resources, and collaborating with partners external to the Environmental team. Lastly, you will be an authority on operational guidance such as global expense policy, and remediation of policy and software risks.
The ideal candidates will have excellent analytical abilities, strong business acumen and judgment, curiosity, and superior written and verbal communication skills. They will have a strong bias toward data driven decision making. They will be a self-starter; comfortable with ambiguity; able to think big and be creative, while exercising strong judgment and good instincts to be right a lot. The ideal candidate is motivated by delivering high-quality analyses and recommendations that change the operational direction within timeframes that most think are impossible. If you are excited about enabling a global design engineering business to deliver for AWS customers, this role is for you!
Key job responsibilities
• Establish 2-3-year strategic initiatives for AWS Environmental team, as well as associated tactical goals for execution in the current year. Implement monthly tracking mechanisms to monitor and report on status of delivery for the subject goals, and ensure clear reporting on the most critical goals to senior leadership.
• Develop and maintain monthly and quarterly business reviews with key metrics while establishing communication channels to keep leadership updated on strategic initiative progress.
• Administer mechanisms to ensure staff meet expectations relative to, among other things, appropriate expense transactions and remediation of software risks.
• Develop global hiring targets, which incorporate expected attrition and pending starts, and analysis of actual hiring activity against these targets on a monthly basis. In addition, facilitate leadership's active management of hiring against performance goals, and produce associated weekly and monthly hiring reports.
• Develop analyses, recommendations, and related mechanisms to assess employee experience, and drive actions to continuously raise the bar for a positive experience.
