Distinguishing Career FeaturesThe Recycling Laborer is the first and starting level in a career path for operations of the Recycling Program. Laborer I will be qualified to assist with Laborer II in any skill area, however, will concentrate on general labor and use of hand tools and light duty equipment requiring on-the-job-training. The Recycling II requires a minimum of two years as a Laborer I or equivalent and knowledge of proper handling of recycled materials and skill at operating relevant equipment, supplies, and machinery. Laborer positons may advance to Equipment Operator with appropriate certifications/licenses and experience.
RequirementsThe Recycling Laborer is capable of performing any of the following general and special functions:
- Performs general labor activities that support the operations of the recycling program.
- On-the-job training by following direction and assisting other skilled employees in performing their duties.
- Clean and maintenance recycling facility.
- Loading and unloading materials and equipment.
- Assisting with the promoting of the recycling program.
- Operating and tending of small hand tools.
- Actively participates in departmental on-call lists. Responds to urgent situations initiated by customers. Assists others in determining cause and location of damaged utility lines or service.
- May operate a pickup truck, passenger vehicle or smaller automotive equipment and may transport fellow employees, tools, materials, and debris.
- Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
