Scope of Job Responsible for all sustainability functions and projects within an organization. Coordinates green initiatives, including improving the environmental impact of the University operation, advising staff on environmental issues that could impact initiatives, and communicating green initiatives through promotions and events.
Description of Duties - Provides expertise and recommendations on sustainability best practices and policies for institution-wide sustainability.
- Monitors and anticipates trends in environmental science, renewable resources, sustainable work processes, and other diverse fields.
- Identifies and advocates sustainable campus projects for construction projects in support of Campus Master Plan.
- Collaborates with stakeholders to assess sustainability options for new construction, major renovations, interior build-outs, and existing buildings.
- Researches traditional sources for new data sets, key reports, and analytic proceedings; explores alternative media, early adopters, and unconventional indicators to support corporate benchmarking and environmental regulatory compliance efforts.
- Manages the design and all completion phases of projects related to sustainability including budget and schedule for assigned projects.
- Works with UTRG's Communications and Marketing team to promote coverage of sustainability at the University and produces internal and external sustainability communications.
- Identifies grants, funding, and rebates for sustainability initiatives. Works cooperatively with other areas of the University to apply and follow-up on grants and other funding.
- Analyzes and reports return on investment projections utilizing lifecycle assessment and resource efficiency analysis in order to support efficient use of resources.
- Serves as the subject matter expert and provides technical assistance to business units and/or functional areas in identifying and implementing sustainability policies/practices.
- Provides quality control and operational data/reports for assigned capital projects.
- Analyzes, tracks and maintains data related to the performance of sustainable initiatives.
- Liaises with sustainability coordinators or equivalents at other education institutions, businesses, governments, and the community to share experience and practices, and promote collaboration.
- May provide support to students, faculty, and staff for the development of course content, academic projects, and experiential opportunities related to sustainability.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervision Received General supervision from assigned supervisor.
Supervision Given Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education Bachelor's degree from an accredited University in Architecture, Environmental Engineering, Public Administration or related field.
Preferred Education N/A
Licenses/Certifications Preferred: Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Certification.
Required Experience Five (5) years work experience in sustainability or environmental technology. Knowledge of environmental management policies, issues and initiatives and thorough understanding of environmental best practices at other Universities.
Preferred Experience Work experience in either a university, non-profit or in a large, multi-unit, multi-facility setting in either a sustainability, energy and environmental or facilities area.
Equipment Use of standard office equipment.
Working Conditions Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office Environment; some travel and weekend work is required.
Other Ability to work weekends and/or evenings as needed; occasional travel is required. Must possess strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse groups or individuals. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills, comfort with public speaking, ability to listen and learn and engender trust among various constituents. Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and work with shifting priorities and schedules. Strong analytical, problem solving and organizational skills required. Must have a strong background in all aspects of sustainability in a campus environment, including energy and water conservation, recycling, waste minimization, sustainable building and landscape design, and Green products
