Travel: This position may require travel to client locations and project sites.
Duties/Responsibilities- Evaluates the current state of Hawaii's coastal and marine environments, identifying key conservation challenges such as habitat degradation, invasive species, illegal fishing, and climate change impacts.
- Reviews existing marine monitoring data and scientific literature to identify trends and gaps relevant to the client's program.
- Provides evidence-based recommendations for enhancing marine resource protection, including best practices for monitoring and enforcement.
- Assists in formulating science-based strategies to support marine biodiversity, fisheries sustainability, and ecosystem resilience.
- Serves as a subject matter expert in discussions related to marine biology, offering insights on ecological health and conservation science.
- Provides scientific input for reports, including summaries of ecological findings, risk assessments, and recommendations for sustainable resource management.
Required Skills/Abilities- Strong background in coral reef ecology, fisheries management, or coastal resource conservation.
- Familiarity with Hawaii's marine ecosystems, including local species, habitats, and conservation policies.
- Experience analyzing ecological data, conducting habitat assessments, and using marine monitoring techniques.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey scientific findings to diverse audiences.
- Ability to synthesize complex ecological data into actionable conservation strategies.
- High level of attention to detail.
- Ability to present complex data and processes in clear, concise text.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Education and Experience - Required: Bachelor's degree in marine biology, Oceanography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Required: Minimum of 5 years of experience in marine conservation, fisheries science, or ecological research including field experience
- Preferred: Master's or Ph.D. in Marine Biology, Oceanography, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Preferred: Knowledge of Hawaiian cultural practices related to marine stewardship.
- Preferred: Experience using GIS and remote sensing tools for marine conservation.
