Key Responsibilities: The Environmental Sustainability Manager is a highly collaborative role that will define and implement United Airlines' circularity strategy. Additionally, the manager will serve as a subject matter expert to advise internal and external business partners on waste minimization/diversion, manage compliance with Single Use Plastics and similar regulations on behalf of the company, embed best practices throughout product lifecycle, and enable employees to gain and realize circularity opportunities.
Strategy - Develop a strategic plan, goals and key performance indicators within your program area that supports United's global environmental sustainability strategy. Engage internal key business partners in the development of the plan to gather input and commitment
- The strategic plan will drive environmental requirements and sustainability initiatives
- Monitor the efficiency of these initiatives by collecting data, analysis, reporting and tracking progress towards goals
- Track progress and opportunities, including the achievement of pre-determined milestones
Execution - Manage program compliance and monitor Single Use Plastics (SUP), Extended Producer Responsibilities (EPR), and similar regulations and requirements, inclusive of local, state and federal, airport authority, industry, and internal requirements
- As the subject matter expert (SME), provide guidance and insight to key partners by proactively articulating impact on business operations by communicating relevant data and analysis, as needed
- Ensure new requirements and policies applicable to your programs are implemented along with any associated training
- Develop and implement sustainability initiatives that complement United's global strategy and goals
- Engage leadership on environmental initiatives and progress towards compliance and sustainability goals
Collaboration - Engage key internal and external partners in the management and continuous improvement of your program
- Collaborate and build rapport with external regulatory and industry partners to ensure that United's positions are articulated and achieved
Leadership - Establish individual goals that align with departmental goals
- Develop individual career and training plans with manager
- Use technical knowledge experience to provide thoughtful decision making and guidance in strategic implementation of United's approved projects
- Be solution oriented and committed to creating and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement and innovation
- Model integrity, possess self-awareness and cultivate an environment of accountability
- Will be held accountable for providing constant and open communication to their project teams, leadership, collaborators and customers
Qualifications What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications): - Bachelor's degree in science, environmental/material sciences/policy, engineering or related area
- 4+ years of environmental professional job experience
- Effective personal and professional communication skills
- Project management skills
- Presentation skills, adaptable to varying levels of employees and leadership
- Able to analyze and interpret data
- Environmental regulatory knowledge
- Self-motivated, self-starter, works independently with little oversight
- Problem solver
- Strong computer skills including MS Office suite, SharePoint, cloud-based database systems
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
