Summary

The Seasonal Gardener focuses on all areas of horticulture and gardening; responsibilities include working with other staff on installation, care, and maintenance of flowers and other plant materials at various sites throughout the City. Hours will vary depending on the weather and time of year with an April start. Up to 40 hours per week.

Essential Duties Responsibilities

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
•Installation, maintenance, and removal of annuals, perennials, plants, shrubs and trees at various garden sites and planter locations. 

•Ensure that all plants at these sites are adequately weeded, watered, pruned, and fertilized so as to remain healthy and attractive throughout the growing season. 

•Demonstrate courtesy and tact when dealing with the public and other staff. 

•Works independently and takes the initiative in solving issues. 

•Ability to communicate effectively via verbal and written reports and forms. 

•Grass cutting 

•Other duties as needed or assigned. 

•Continually shows respect for diverse perspectives, backgrounds, and interests. Exhibits sensitivity to the needs of diverse audiences in all duties performed on behalf of the City to support Roseville in building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working environment and community. 

•Performs other job-related duties as assigned. 

Required Skills/Experience/Education

•Must be 18 years of age. 

•High school diploma or GED equivalent. 

•Most possess valid Minnesota driver's license and have a good driving record. 

•Ability to perform manual tasks for extended periods of time. 

•Knowledge of plant varieties, their growth characteristics, and maintenance requirements. 

•Willingness to work weekends as work requires

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. 

The employee will regularly work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to wet, humid, hot, or cold conditions. With appropriate safety equipment, the employee may perform duties involving fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud

The Seasonal Gardener is responsible for varied technical, complex, and confidential functions, many of which have deadlines and require significant attention to detail. Approximately 70-90% of the time, work is performed at the highest level of detail under the pressure of deadlines.

The employee must frequently (up to 70% of the time) lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally (less than 15% of the time) lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Approximately 45 - 70% of the time, work is performed at a high level of detail or pressure of deadlines and approximately 30-50% of the work is performed outside. 

This position is not eligible for Benefits with the City of Roseville.
