Summary The Sustainability Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring sustainability initiatives across the supply chain and internal operations. This role ensures compliance with environmental standards, reduces the company's carbon footprint, and enhances sustainable sourcing, waste reduction, and energy efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities . Sustainable Sourcing & Supply Chain Management- Monitor and ensure deforestation-free feed sourcing, tracking percentages from verified low-risk sources.
- Oversee nutrient management in feed sourcing, ensuring compliance with verified sustainability plans.
- Assess and enhance air quality measures in animal farm operations, focusing on emission reduction techniques.
- Manage and verify animal welfare certifications and audits across farm, transportation, and processing stages.
- Enforce prudent antibiotic use policies, ensuring adherence to veterinary guidance and stewardship.
- Environmental Impact & Carbon Footprint Reduction
- Track and report on feed conversion ratios to optimize resource efficiency.
- Calculate and reduce greenhouse gas emissions intensity for both farm operations and processing stages.
- Oversee water use intensity reporting and develop reduction initiatives.
- Improve carcass utilization rates in processing to minimize waste.
- Labor Rights & Ethical Sourcing
- Implement and enforce labor rights policies in supply chain operations, ensuring compliance with ethical labor standards.
- Conduct risk assessments and audits to identify and mitigate labor-related risks.
- Train procurement teams on ethical labor practices and ensure continuous improvement through performance metrics.
- Internal Sustainability & Waste Reduction
- Develop and implement strategies for reducing waste to landfill, tracking annual reduction goals.
- Conduct studies to quantify waste or usage, establish and implement improvement targets.
- Oversee 100% recycling targets for inbound corrugate and improve recycled plastic management.
- Identify and implement strategies to reduce corrugate and plastic use per pound of finished goods.
- Monitor and improve electricity, gas, and water usage efficiency, setting reduction targets and tracking quarterly progress.
Supervisory Responsibilities This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
Qualifications- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, sustainability frameworks, and certification standards.
- Proficiency in data analysis, sustainability reporting, and lifecycle assessment.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work cross-functionally with suppliers, procurement teams, and regulatory bodies.
Education and/or Experience - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Agriculture, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in sustainability management, preferably in the animal agriculture or food production industry.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, sustainability frameworks, and certification standards
Language Skills Ability to read and comprehend instructions. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations to leaders and other employees of the organization.
Computer Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software and Microsoft Office Word Processing software.

Must have the ability to communicate with various departments. Strong organization skills are required. Ability to operate simple office equipment sufficiently to perform the job.
