POSITION SUMMARYeGenesis is seeking a contractor position for Computational Biologist/Bioinformatics Scientist, to join our team of scientists in advancing our mission to make xenotransplantation a reality. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in genomics, particularly a demonstrated expertise in variant calling using NGS sequencing. This role will focus on analyzing sequencing data, refining variant detection approaches, and interpreting genomic variations to inform scientific and technical advancements. The ideal candidate should be exceptionally detail-oriented, with strong analytical skills, ensuring high standards of accuracy and efficiency in a dynamic, results-oriented environment.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES- Perform variant calling and quality assessment on sequencing datasets
- Analyze genomic variants to identify patterns and refine computational methods
- Optimize and validate bioinformatics pipelines for improved variant detection
- Interpret genomic data in collaboration with experimental and computational teams
- Document findings and contribute to internal reports and presentations
- Assist in data organization and maintenance to ensure data integrity
- Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in computational biology and genomics to implement best practices
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- A master's degree with 2-3 years of experience, or a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, engineering, computer science, or a related quantitative field
- Strong programming skills in Python, R, or Bash, and experience working in Linux environments
- Extensive experience with variant detection and visualization including small variants and complex structural variants (SV) in repetitive regions
- Proficiency in NGS data analysis and understanding of genome-wide variant interpretation
- Experience with genomic databases such as NCBI, UCSC, Ensembl
- Strong organization skills and meticulous attention to detail
- Experience with AWS cloud computing, GitHub, Benchling and/or SevenBridges data analysis platform is a plus
- Knowledge of molecular biology and long-read sequencing is preferred
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
