JOB STATEMENT:

The Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager is responsible for ensuring the winery operates in compliance with environmental regulations and health and safety standards. This role involves developing, implementing, and overseeing programs and policies that promote environmental sustainability, workplace safety, and the health and well-being of all employees.

Essential Duties:

Environmental

  • Updates permit activity such as storm water permits, air quality permits, wastewater permits and others. Maintains the facility Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and Spill Prevention Control Countermeasures (SPCC) Plan to include sampling as required.  Knowledgeable in wastewater pre-treatment activities
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive Hazardous Materials Plan that includes procedures for the safe handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Ensure proper labeling, storage, and waste disposal of hazardous materials. Coordinate with emergency responders in the event of a hazardous materials incident. 
  • Work with County Certified Unified Program Agencies to ensure compliance with new and existing regulations.

Health and Safety

  • Responsible for maintaining OSHA compliance at the winery which includes planning, scheduling and implementing necessary programs and training. Development and maintenance of safety procedures, training documentation and other related information. Represents winery in working with OSHA.
  • Oversight of the Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP) and California Accidental Release (CalARP) plan.  Review and update emergency evacuation routes and conduct preparedness drills for the entire winery.
  • High emphasis on accident prevention and behavior-based safety programs. Develops Job Safety Analysis (JSAs) and safe operation procedures for all cellar and bottling operations. Conducts ergonomic reviews and works to reduce ergonomic issues
  • Responsible for maintaining OSHA 300 logs. Supports and coordinates all activities related to industrial clinic and initial reporting of workers’ compensation claims. Works in conjunction with HR on claim management
  • Schedules and conducts monthly safety meetings with safety committee. Facilitates the activities of the safety committee. Documents safety meeting minutes and distributes to all management personnel, coupled with resolutions and feasibility of solutions requested.  Ensures Contractor Safety Management program is effectively implemented
  • Investigations of accidents, exposures or near misses shall be conducted and recorded in accordance with internal policies.

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).
  • 3 - 5 years of combined experience in environmental, health and safety.
  • Proven success in developing and executing EH&S programs.
  • Strong knowledge of Illness and Injury Prevention Programs (IIPP).
  • Proficiency in employee training tools and related certification programs (CPR, respirator, forklift).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to analyze data, develop insights, and drive health and safety improvements.

Knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office; Word, Excel and Access
  • Effective Communication and Technical Writing

 

Ability to:

  • Ability to streamline functions and passion to learn and grow
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including written and oral communication skills
  • Comfort dealing with ambiguity and the ability to work independently
  • Experience working with, and presenting to, senior executives
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; be comfortable interacting with executive-level management
  • Strong financial modeling experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Sit for an extensive period of time
  • Lift up to 50 lbs
  • Perform data entry tasks using standard computer equipment

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Limited noise level
  • Indoor climate

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIRED: 

  • Side shield safety glasses, safety vest, head/ear protection and proper footwear when in production facility
