Description and FunctionsOpen Until FilledGENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Wyoming Game and Fish Department is seeking a Large Carnivore Biologist stationed in Lander, WY to monitor large carnivores, with a focus on grizzly bear monitoring in the northwest portion of Wyoming using capture equipment, controlled pharmaceuticals, firearms and assorted field equipment.

- Capturing and handling black bears, grizzly bears, mountain lions, and gray wolves.
- Inventory wolf populations, document reproduction.
- Collecting data and keeping records for population evaluation and modeling.
- Using radio telemetry equipment for locating marked animals.
- Preventing human-carnivore conflicts by working with businesses, agencies, outfitters, property owners, livestock producers, and the public.
- Using controlled drugs, firearms, and explosives.
- Data analysis and report writing.
- Conduct damage claim investigations to determine the cause of death in livestock and wildlife and recommend damage compensation when appropriate.
- Assisting law enforcement personnel with investigations of wildlife violations.
- Investigate incidents of human injury caused by wildlife.
- Conduct information and education programs.
QualificationsPREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: Preference will be given for any combination of training and experience equivalent to a bachelor's degree in wildlife management, range management, biology, zoology, ichthyology, or closely related field,
Preference will be given for experience in capturing and handling black bears, grizzly bears, mountain lions, and gray wolves.
**Must have a valid driver's license.
KNOWLEDGE: - Ability to work long and irregular hours under some adverse conditions and extreme public scrutiny.
- Skills will be required to use firearms, controlled pharmaceuticals, capture equipment, ATVs, horses, 4-wheel drive vehicles, radio equipment, radio telemetry, and power equipment and tools.
- The position will require work with dangerous animals in remote settings. Knowledge to participate in data collection, analysis, and report writing.
- Will require independent decision making ability and excellent interpersonal communication skills.
- Will require computer and data analysis skills.
- The position will require heavy lifting and excellent physical condition. Knowledge of the ecology of large carnivores and other wild animals.

Necessary Special RequirementsPHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Operating 4-wheel drive vehicles, snowmobiles, ATV's, riding and packing horses for backcountry work, and flying in fixed-wing and helicopters in mountain conditions.
- Working in inclement and severe weather conditions. On-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Working alone in remote, back country locations.
- The position will require heavy lifting and excellent physical condition.
