Get to Know This Role
The Sustainability Program Manager is focused on developing, implementing, and managing initiatives that further integrate Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility into Sierra Nevada's culture, operations, and value chain to address the environmental, social, and economic impacts of the company. Reporting to the Chief, Sustainability & Social Impact Officer and in collaboration with Sustainability Program Manager counterpart, this role requires a high level of decision-making, professionalism, technical knowledge, and the ability to own initiatives and drive behavior change at respective brewery. This position collaborates across all departments and teams as well as fulfills external, public-facing responsibilities within the local and regional community and with advocacy partners. The Sustainability Program Manager is responsible for both internal and external engagement, program/project creation and management, metrics tracking and reporting, and is a key role in executing and achieving Hop Forward initiatives - the company's environmental and social impact initiatives. Please note: This position is based in Mills River, NC. This position is a full-time, on-site role. Remote or hybrid work arrangements are not available. What You Will Do
- Research, lead, develop, and implement programs and projects related to energy, water, zero waste, transportation, supply chain, climate change and greenhouse gas emissions facility-wide; responsible for monthly tracking of energy, water, and waste KPI metrics.
- Manage zero waste program including recycling cooperative, hauler/vendor relationships, conducting audits, assessing domestic and foreign markets, and tracking KPI metrics monthly; also support Produced Events and Brewery Support teams with zero waste plans and infrastructure
- Support the completion and maintenance of the company's greenhouse gas inventory for scopes 1, 2 and 3 and assist in the development of strategic, company-wide reduction goals and targets
- Research, apply for, and manage grants and other funding mechanisms through local, state, or federal programs that support company initiatives to reduce GHG emissions and other environmental impact goals
- Build relationships and support the implementation of company-wide initiatives to achieve strategic goals and commitments related to Sustainability and CSR
- Develop and deliver educational content and training materials for site-based employees as well as resources and guidance for external-facing teams (Sales, Field Marketing, and Guest Experience)
- Support the development and creation of the annual company impact report as well as additional Sustainability/CSR marketing materials and content
- Primary contact and Subject Matter Expert for sustainability initiatives at respective brewery
- Manage plant-specific budget for department and make purchasing decisions as appropriate
- Represent Sierra Nevada through our advocacy partners as well as serve as a liaison with city, county and regional organizations with respect to relevant sustainability impacts and initiatives
- Develop and maintain community partnerships with local environmental/sustainability groups as well as other businesses through speaking engagements, onsite community-facing events, and VIP tours
- Support broader corporate responsibility initiatives as needed
Please Apply if You Have
- Bachelor's Degree preferably in sustainability, environmental science, or related field required
- 3 years Leading, developing and implementing sustainability projects or programs required
- 1 year Researching, applying for and managing grant funding and/or rebates and incentives through local or state programs preferred
- 1 year Greenhouse gas accounting/reporting preferred
- Technical knowledge of global systems, climate change, zero waste, water and energy efficiency, and renewable energy
- Knowledge of corporate responsibility and environmental, social, and governance frameworks desired
- Experience driving behavior change and engaging others
- Exceptional communication skills, ability to interact with all levels of the company as well as represent the company externally
- Strong planning, organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to translate and tailor complicated and complex information in a way that is interesting and relevant to different audiences
- High level of professionalism, collaboration, and relationship building
- Passion for sustainability and environmental advocacy
