POSITION SCOPE AND ORGANIZATIONAL IMPACTThe Solar Civil Lead will be responsible for performing estimating services as it relates to the civil, earthwork, erosion control, landscaping, and fencing scopes of work to the Solar Division in the execution of large capital projects. (Utility-Scale and Distributed Generation Projects)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Performs civil takeoffs for solar projects based on limited information provided, including site layout, topographic survey, and geotechnical report
- This individual must be proactive in retrieving information and must know the industry unit rates for the civil features in order to provide quality estimation criteria
- Experience compiling estimates into bid form
- Setup and lead descope meetings with civil subcontractors to verify estimates
- Setup and lead civil estimate review with management.
- Prepare and track estimates as the design drawings progress, including, value-engineering analysis
- Assist design team and owners to make intelligent/informed decisions to keep the design program and project budget on track as it relates to civil / site work scopes of work
- Review final construction drawings and specifications to determine final scope of work and lead pre-bid/post bid trade contractor meetings
- Establish and maintain good business relationships with trade contractors and vendors to assure the support and interest on pre-construction solar projects
- Provide support to the team, including training of Junior Staff
- Communicate and interact with the project owner, design consultants and Moss staff with the most professional demeanor
- Other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS & ABILITIES FOR POSITION- Bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or related discipline
- Minimum 3 years' experience estimating in the solar construction industry- Solar experience is required
- Southeast project experience is required
- Must be Savvy in civil takeoff software
- Must have great attitude in working with the Moss team
- PM / Estimator background that has several years working for a civil subcontractor with a passion towards estimating
- It is preferred to have experience working in the field for a civil / sitework / land development contractor
- Strong computer skills are a necessity, such as MS Office / Excel / PowerPoint / Word, including familiarity with construction project management applications and estimating software
- Proficient in estimating civil material quantity takeoffs utilizing civil software
- Proficient in estimating civil earthwork (cut/fill) takeoffs utilizing civil software
- Proficient in reading civil drawings including contours, topographical surveys, CAD files, etc.
- Strong understanding in civil drainage features including swales, basins, berms, etc.
- Strong understanding in reviewing civil studies including hydrology studies, stormwater management, flood depth studies, etc.
- Strong Estimating and Project Scheduling backgrou
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and are required to interface directly with owners' representatives, the A/E team, building departments and other team members
- Two or more years' experience working for a Civil Contractor in an estimating capacity or working for a GC
- Ability to read, interpret and understand plans proficiently is a requirement
- Ability to read specifications and understand the subject matter
- Ability to perform accurate quantity survey take-offs
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
