Job DescriptionM&J is currently seeking an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist to oversee the construction of a new federal agency building in Maryland. The successful candidate will manage all aspects of environmental health and safety to ensure the project complies with regulatory standards and industry best practices.
OverviewThe EHS Specialist serves as the onsite M&J representative Environmental, Health and Safety oversight of a large greenfield project in support of a Federal construction project in the Washington DC area. The role will oversee and implement effective EHS plans and policies, and be responsible for implementation of those plans.
Responsibilities- Performs daily, on-site check of construction operation to assure contractor is performing in accordance with EM 385-1-1 to define problems and devise and provide recommendations on alternative courses of action in a report to the COR
- Ensure all project personnel comply with Site, Safety and Occupational Health (SSOH) requirements, prepare a report of any deficiencies and recommended solutions, and provide the report to the COR.
- Review Accident Prevention Plans and prepare a report of findings to provide to the COR.
- Review AHAs and prepare a report of findings to provide to the COR.
- Coordinates and participates in Quality Management and Safety inspections at construction field sites to ascertain that Safety requirements are being performed per established policies, regulations, plans, and Construction Division Operating Manual; and consults with field personnel to prepare a report of findings/deficiencies, to include any recommendations for corrective action, to be provided to the COR.
- Assists and advises field personnel in the execution of Safety duties and submit any findings in a report to the COR.
Required Skills & Experience- Bachelor'sdegree in Environmental Health, Safety, or a related field, preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in EHS management, with a focus on large-scale construction projects.
- In-depth knowledge of OSHA, EPA regulations, and federal safety standards.
- Proven experience in leading safety initiatives and training programs on construction sites.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to manage multiple safety-related activities and teams.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with regulatory agencies and project teams.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred.
