JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE OF POSITIONThe internship program is designed to provide a comprehensive learning experience, develop practical skills, enhance knowledge, and make meaningful contributions to projects. Intern assignments will be determined based on business need and role availability with consideration to skills and development goals.
The Engineering/Nuclear Safety STEM Intern will gain knowledge and experience in overall nuclear facility safety analysis and evaluation and perform calculations to gain insight into methods used for assessing component failure and radiation exposure.
SPECIFIC PROJECTS/RESPONSIBILITES- Perform finite element analysis of waste container durability under evaluation basis loads.
- Perform parametric neutron multiplication calculations to establish criticality safety of upset (accident) configurations.
- Quantify uncertainty in waste activity estimates using point kernel modeling
REQUIREMENTS/SPECIFICATIONS- Education/Experience:
- Pursuing a BA/BS in engineering, science, construction management, computer sciences, or other technically related fields of study
- Must be at least a rising Junior
- Preference for courses in nuclear engineering/health physics or physics/chemistry and related courses, with a preference for courses related to finite element analysis or radiation transport (shielding, criticality).
- Other Requirements:
- Ability to intern for 10 weeks typically between May and August.
- Enthusiasm for learning and adapting to new challenges.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES/SCOPE OF WORK- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following established safe work practices and procedures; including following all safety rules, use of proper personal protective equipment (PPE), investigating and reporting identified safety concerns or situations.

- Perform diverse assignments within functional specialty.
- Establish schedules to accomplish routine and special tasks.
- Collaborate with team members on projects to contribute to the organization's effectiveness.
- Participate in projects and deliverables as directed by manager.
- Support the team in preparing reports, presentations, and technical documentation.
- Prepare a Final Presentation for Staff Managers at the end of the internship depicting internship experience and accomplished projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
