Our primary markets include Live Events, Commercial, Transportation, Schools and Theatres, and International. The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for assisting all areas in the maintenance and development of Environmental Management system and other EHS elements that allow for a safe work environment for all domestic and international employees.
General Expectation: - Champion the development of our environmental management system.
- Support our safety culture and work closely with Departments/Factories to continue to advance this culture.
- Demonstrate a relentless passion and drive for Environmental and Safety improvements in all areas.
- Understand applicable EHS requirements and how they apply.
- Mentor, lead, and train employees on EHS in all areas.
- Maintain knowledge of EPA, OSHA, NFPA, ANSI, Workers Compensation, and relevant international regulations.
- Travel periodically for facility inspections, training, and incident investigations.
- Perform other responsibilities as needed to support the efforts of the team.
Environmental Sustainability Process Development - Implement and maintain an Environmental Management System with the goal of identifying objectives which reduce impact to the organization.
- Utilize the fundamentals referenced in ISO standards to improve our environmental systems.
- Identify and lead projects which are designed to reduce environmental impact within the organization.
- Track and understand trends associated with waste production and provide methods for reduction.
- Lead environmental related process audits with the goal of reducing overall impact.
- Correspond with experts to maintain air and waste permitting with goals of reducing impact.
People Development: - Continue to develop our EHS culture by fostering an environment which has employees, their supervisors, and managers seeing you as approachable, understandable, and a valuable resource.
- Lead EHS audits with Factory leadership and committee members. Auditors should focus on growing attendee's knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety requirements and the identification of hazards.
- Mentor Leadership and Engineering to ensure safety is integrated into their daily processes.
- Provide support, training, and direction to Safety Committee members.
- Attend daily Tier meetings and support monthly Tier meeting metrics and topics with factory leadership.
Improving the Business: - Help establish sustainability programs that can reduce impact caused by manufacturing processes.
- Provide support in areas such as factory safety, jobsite safety, driving, and industrial hygiene.
- Maintain compliance with ISO, EPA, OSHA, and other relevant standards.
- Manage and coordinate Factory specific EHS projects as assigned by Factory leadership.
- Work with Factory leadership and Engineering teams to ensure identified EHS opportunities are addressed.
- Verify that Accident/Incident investigations are completed, and that root cause analysis has been performed.
Continuous Training and Education - Help develop and conduct EHS related training for Daktronics employees. Training could include topics like: HAZWOPER Response, Risk Assessments, Environmental Management, new hire orientation, OSHA 10/30 hour, etc.
- When requested, conduct monthly Factory safety and health training.
- Attend environmental, ISO, safety, and training seminars geared towards on-going professional development.
- Support and train leaders on the use of EHS tools.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree required. Preferred majors include Environmental Studies/Sciences or Occupational Safety & Health. Related majors may also be considered.
- Environmental and Safety/Compliance experience preferred.
- Experience working with Environmental Steering Teams to establish corporate goals and initiatives.
- Experience implementing environmental management systems: Including ISO 14001.
- Training experience is preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, and self-motivation are required.
- Effectively exercise discretion and independent judgement.
- Physical Requirements include the ability to:
- Work in an environment with these types of smells: paint, solvent, and solder.
- Frequently lift 35 lbs. Occasionally to frequently lift 45 lbs., in some work areas.
- Work from heights, including working from ladders and platforms.
- Reach in all directions (up, down, side-to-side, and diagonal reaching).
- Maintain steady hand/eye coordination.
- Identify wire and paint colors.
- Read fine print.
- Fluent in English, written and verbal.
- Ability to travel by air and ground. Valid driver's license and good driving record. Motor vehicle records will be checked.
