Water Resources Design Engineer 1 to join our our
Kansas City Water Resources Team based in the
Kansas City, MO office. This position will support a variety of design and planning projects. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated ability to understand the application of engineering fundamentals on hydrologic and hydraulic engineering design projects for a variety of clients, particularly states, municipalities, and railroads.
The ideal candidate for this position should have strong listening and communication skills with the ability to perform design tasks and develop design memorandums and reports that relay a clear message. Additionally, the ideal candidate is someone who is motivated, eager to learn, a team player, and takes pride in their work. The primary types of projects the candidate will be assigned include highway and roadway drainage, hydrologic studies, site stormwater and detention design, and hydraulic modeling of culverts and bridges. The opportunity to assist in other disciplines, as needed, is likely including; railroad design and site grading.
Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):- Perform in a team environment with both Design Engineers and CAD technicians.
- Receive instructions from a Project Manager or Senior Project Engineer as to the assigned tasks, budget for tasks, and general deliverables necessary to meet client expectations. Ask questions if task assignments aren't clear.
- Analyze survey information and other data to perform routine design tasks.
- Utilize engineering skills and design software to perform assigned tasks.
- Prepare supporting documentation for the design of various projects.
- Solve engineering problems and pay attention to detail.
- Represent the Water Resources Team in both internal project status meetings and by supporting Project Managers at external meetings with clients.
- Keep Project Manager and Team Leader informed of design status and any potential impacts to project schedule, scope, or required effort.
QualificationsWhat you bring to our firm:- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
- Certified as an Engineer-in-Training
- Proficient in Microsoft OfficeProficient in Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of the Bentley MicroStation/Geopack SS4/SS10 and ORD design software
- Ability to learn and thrive in a fast paced environment
- Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.
What we'd prefer for you to bring to our firm:Exposure to Bentley PondPack, ESRI ArcMap, HEC-RAS, SRH-2D, and HY-8.
Work Environment:- Work in indoor office environment 90% of the time.
- Work in outdoor environment 10% of the time, including rural, urban, roadside, railroad, and wooded locations as needed.
- Moderate noise level encountered indoors and outdoors.
- Travel via automobile or airline, including overnight on occasion as needed.
