Responsibilities
What you'll be challenged to do: Gannett Fleming TranSystems' Boston, Massachusetts office has an opening within our Bridge Division for a Bridge Engineering Intern/Co-Op during the Winter/Spring Semester and/or Summer of 2025 for a Civil Engineering student interested in learning career skills through assisting our experienced engineers. This position is open to students currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Master of Science in Civil Engineering program with a graduation date in 2024, 2025, or 2026. This position includes structural design, rehabilitation, and inspection of bridges and tunnels, along with the preparation of load rating reports, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates. In addition, duties may include construction inspection services. Day-to-day assignments and technical guidance will be provided by Project Engineers and Project Managers. Assignments may involve travel within Massachusetts and the continental United States.
Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):
- Participate in bridge design assignments involving contract plans preparation and specifications, design calculations, calculation of quantities, and development of cost estimates.
- Assist in performing bridge and tunnel inspection assignments as an inspection team member while documenting inspection findings and preparing inspection reports throughout MA and the US.
- Assist in performing load rating analyses.
- Provide office and field support for construction phase services, including review of shop drawing submittals. Organize submittals and address questions from contractors during the construction.
- Assist in the preparation of business proposals.
Qualifications
What you bring to our firm:
- Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelors or Masters Degree in the Civil Engineering field at an ABET accredited university.

What we'd prefer for you to bring to our firm:

- Anticipated graduate date in 2025 or 2026.
- Attention to detail
- The preferred candidate will have a strong preference and desire for structural/bridge engineering, a working knowledge of Microstation, AutoCAD, and a working knowledge of design drawings.
- No relocation assistance - Local candidates preferred.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, inside factories, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).
- The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to adjust focus.
