PRIMARY PURPOSE:
• Assist the company in creating a safe working environment for all of our employees by establishing comprehensive environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs.
• Create training programs as required by government regulations.
• Assure compliance with all government regulations in the areas of environmental, health, safety and non-regulated and regulated hazardous waste.
• Manage non-regulated and regulated hazardous waste documentation and records.
• Be able to train employees in the areas of USEPA, OSHA, DOT and other applicable regulatory required areas.
• Create and write policy and procedures in the area of EH&S.
• Report to management on activities within the department.
• Maintain regulatory permits for DOT-PHMSA, FDEP, FDOH, FL SERC, USEPA, USEPA-FIFRA, and Pinellas County Industrial Pretreatment Program,
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Determine what OSHA regulations and training requirements apply to the company.
• Recognize, evaluate, and aid in the control of hazards including chemical, physical, and others that might be encountered in the workplace
• Perform environmental monitoring including but limited to: personal and area air monitoring, noise monitoring and indoor air quality (IAQ) investigations
• Design or purchase training programs that comply with the requirements of OSHA and other government regulations in the areas of safety and compliance such as HAZCOM, Lockout-Tag out, Confined Space, Forklift Safety and Respiratory Protection
• Establish a hazardous waste management program that conforms to EPA and other government regulations. Oversee hazardous and nonhazardous waste storage, treatment and disposal programs to ensure compliance with federal and state requirements
• Partner with managers and supervisors to ensure safety is part of day to day operations.
• Develop and perform relevant monthly safety meetings/tool box talks with supervisors
• Develop Safety Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for equipment and processes
• Maintain required paperwork, such as OSHA 300 logs, safety training records, employee accident reports
• Be primary contact between the company and company's property and comp insurance carrier.
• Maintain company's Emergency Response Plan.
• Monitor and perform required operational testing of facility fire protection systems
• Conduct training for employees in the area of safety and new employee orientation.
• Keep required training records for employee safety and health training (i.e. hazard communications, respiratory protection, and forklift).
• Develop Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) pages for products being dispensed, produced and developed (pilots) by the Dispensary, Pharmacy and Technology Transfer departments. Maintain Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for the facility.
• Develop and work with cross functional teams to assure PSM programs where needed.
• Input safety related information into the AS400 computer system to include: PPE, cleanup and disposal, first aid, chemical container labeling (HMIS).
• Order PPE and related equipment for the facility that is used daily for the protection of employees from hazards.
• Perform reporting and other task as required by company SOP's and regulatory agencies
QUALIFICATION:
A. Required
• Experience in general industry and applicable regulations.
• The ability to customize educational programs to the needs of the business as required by applicable government agencies.
• The ability to communicate well with others.
• Must possess strong training skills.
• Must be extremely organized and keep accurate record and documentation.
• Ability to track trends and produce annual reporting to government agencies as required by regulations.
B. Preferred Additional
• Experience in the chemical industry, pharmaceutical and/or medical device and cosmetic industry.
• Strong background and knowledge of manufacturing environments, cGMP, FDA, EPA, DOT, NFPA, NIOSH, Homeland Security and clean room experience.
• Experience with local government agencies.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
• Power Point, Word, Excel, and a basic understanding of Microsoft media applications is required.
• Familiarity with different types of monitoring equipment that may be needed to conduct safety analysis in work areas.
EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING
• Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or other related field.
• Certifications in First Aid and CPR.
• Hazcom and DOT training.
