BAE Systems Electronic Systems (ES) is seeking an energy engineer to join our Business Sustainability team supporting the eastern region properties; this technical position will report to the Energy and Utility Manager. The Business Sustainability Department is part of the ES Facilities organization and is focused on driving progress towards the business' Net Zero by 2030 goal, resource use reductions, lowering utility costs, enhancing environmental performance, and embracing new technologies in the operation of the ES sectors national portfolio of buildings. The Business Sustainability Department is committed to enhancing the bottom line and reducing our environmental footprint by effectively managing energy, water, and waste through the design and operation of our facilities.
This is a remote position with the selected candidate needing to reside within the eastern region. The eastern region consists of 17 properties encompassing 1.9M square feet of space. The primary locations include Endicott, NY, Greenlawn, NY, Wayne, NJ, and Manassas, VA. Preference will be for candidates residing within the NY/NJ metro area. The successful candidate will be required to travel regularly to the eastern region sites. The Eastern Region Energy Engineer will be an active member of the team at each site, driving engagement in the energy management program at each site and driving the site's progress towards the business' net zero goals. The primary function of this position is to act as an energy management resource for each facility.
The Role:
- Lead engagement with eastern region site teams through regular meetings; supporting the sites in identifying reduction opportunities, developing a strategy to meet net zero emission goals, establishing project measurement and verification methodology, and reviewing the design documents for upcoming projects.
- Travel regularly to each site to support the site team in identifying new reduction opportunities, conducting internal audits, and supporting external audits, commissioning new projects, and gaining a thorough understanding of the site's operation as it relates to energy consumption.
- Develop and scope out capital improvement measures as well as building optimization, operations, and maintenance measures.
- Remotely support site team in the development of new reduction projects by conducting feasibility studies and total cost of ownership assessments, estimating energy and emissions savings, calculating return on investment estimates, developing project scopes of work, and proactively pursuing funding for new projects to ensure timely implementation.
- Identify and capture rebates and incentives associated with reduction projects.
- Make use of building management systems to optimize the buildings' operations and to expand the department's insight into energy use at each site.
- Support quarterly environmental reporting through collection of utility consumption data.
- Collaborate with the Business Sustainability team in piloting new technology and building out a more comprehensive energy management program throughout the business.
- Work remotely in support of multiple facilities.
Required Education, Experience & Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Engineering, Facilities Management, Environmental Technology, or Sustainability Studies or 3-5 years of experience in the areas of commercial energy management, energy efficiency, energy auditing, building infrastructure and systems, and greenhouse gas accounting or equivalent experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills involving interfacing with both internal and external parties.
- Reporting and documentation proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
