DescriptionThe forester supports the budgeting, planning, and execution of forestry operations, including the prioritization of work activities for both the forestry department and vendors. Responsibilities include harvest planning and supervision, implementing silvicultural prescriptions, and asset protection. This position involves a combination of both field- and office-based duties, such as forest inventories, streamside management zone and boundary marking, collecting GPS field data, prescribed burning, logging and planting supervision, and computer-based reporting and management.
Job QualificationsThe preferred candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in forestry and a minimum of five years of experience in the field. An outstanding safety record in all aspects of previous employment history is crucial. The successful candidate will become familiar with Microsoft Office and ESRI software. Technical experience with the following is desired: conducting performance assessments and applying appropriate control measures; timber-sales administration and inspections; and forest measurements.
Behavioral ProfileThe successful candidate will be safety conscious, self-motivated, organized, and dependable, demonstrating strong prioritization and leadership skills as well as an excellent work ethic. This individual will be required to work independently, and as part of a team. Developmental training is a condition of successful service in this role. He/she must also possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse individuals, both internal and external to the organization.
