The AFRL Aerospace Systems Directorate seeks to hire a research Chemical Engineer for an entry to a mid-level position (DR-I/II a GS7 to 13 equivalent) in the Turbine Division (RQT), Fuels Branch (RQTF) at Wright-Patterson AFB, in Dayton, Ohio.Position duties include, but are not limited to:
- Conducts research and technology management activities in the area of aviation fuel modeling and simulation with direction from organizational and programmatic leadership.
- Performs research and development in aviation fuels which may include: analysis of conventional and future fuels; studies of fuel chemistry and kinetics in the bulk fluid and/or on surfaces (catalytic and inert); interactions of fuels with advanced systems (aircraft/vehicle); behavior of fuels throughout relevant military operational regimes; diagnostics; and development of fuel performance modeling and design codes.
- Identifies and executes solutions for a wide variety of programmatic and technical challenges of interest to future and current United States Air Force technologies using judgement and originality.
- Work collaboratively within multidisciplinary (technical, business, and managerial) teams, both within and outside the organization, to address complex fuel-related challenges. Effectively plan, solve, execute, and communicate solutions through various mediums (oral, visual, and written) and offer technical insights to various research efforts in alignment with organizational guidance.
- Pivots and capitalize on technical knowledge when changes occur in technology demand signals from organization leaders.
- Conducts research support activities including but not limited to information technology, business processes, logistics, security, and/or safety activities.
- The initial research area focus is on development of design code, models, and performance prediction tools for military uses of aviation fuel.

Required Qualifications - US Citizenship
- At least a bachelor's degree with 6+ years applicable experience, a master's degree with 3+ years applicable experience, or a Ph.D. to meet the DR-II/GS-12 entry level, DR-I will be a bachelor's degree or more.
- Chemical Engineer (0893): Professional science or engineering (S&E) degree from an ABET accredited academic institution in chemical engineering
- Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
- This is an Acquisition Professional Development Program (APDP) position requiring Level/Tier 2 (Practitioner) certification in the Engineering & Technical Management stall. Applicants must list all completed APDP certifications on a resume (if applicable). Selectee will have 5 years to meet the APDP certification requirements for the position.

- Experience in utilization of codes, models, and/or digital engineering tools for use for chemical systems
- Experience of developing design codes, models, and/or digital engineering tools, as well as experience managing their development efforts.
- History of communication of highly technical information concisely to various technical, managerial, and executive decision-making audiences.
- Demonstrated oral and written communications skills of technical information for diverse types of audiences (non-technical and technical).
- Experience in collaborative development and writing project technical reports, presentation, or peer-review articles.
- Experience of newly available information technologies and adapting to local research and/or business workflows
- Chemical laboratory skills
- Experience working as part of a multifunctional team or Integrated Product Team, in person, virtual, and hybrid environments.
- The ability to work in multi-faceted teams (technical, business, and managerial) to achieve complicated goals in in-person, virtual, and hybrid environments.
- Experience working with fuels and related technologies.
- Direct or relevant experience in DoD Science and Technology Management.
- Familiarity with business processes, logistics, security, or safety activities.
