Position Highlights The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering (CHEE) is seeking an Academic Advisor who will play a pivotal role in CHEE student success and development in the undergraduate program.
This position encompasses a broad spectrum of responsibilities including academic advising and registration assistance, data analysis, ABET accreditation, program assessment, and support of the undergraduate program in CHEE. The academic advisor will guide students through successfully completing their degree program and career development. The incumbent will assist with course planning and departmental events.
A successful person serves as the front-line contact for undergraduate students for developmental academic advising to drive engagement and empower students to achieve their academic and career goals and plays a vital role in maximizing undergraduate student retention. They build formative relationships with students by interpreting information and providing clarification on procedures and academicrequirements.

Duties & Responsibilities - Advises chemical engineering and environmental engineering undergraduate majors, including traditional students (US and international students who began their college career as freshmen at UA), transfer students, and sponsored scholarship students.
- Provide timely and accurate advising to undergraduates through in-person appointments, zoom, or other appropriate platforms.
- Assist students with degree plans for their chosen major and establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals.
- Assist individual student's stage of development (academic and career) and promote their growth by determining suitable developmental tasks.
- Utilize advising technology including UAccess, UAccess Analytics, and Trellis and work within FERPA guidelines.
- Assist in tracking student academic progress towards completion of degree requirements with adherence to policies and procedures required by the Department, College, and University.
- Participate in freshman and transfer student orientations, which includes evaluating academic credentials for transfer credit or graduation requirements.
- Assist students in changing majors from No Major Selected in the College of Engineering or from majors outside of the college to chemical engineering or environmental engineering.
- Review advanced standing requirements and advise students on fulfillment of any deficiencies.
- Assist with approving and certifying student programs of study for fulfillment of graduation requirements; approve and verify proposed changes to programs and assist students in their completion; determine if all requirements such as major, grade point average, and total units have been met.
- Update student advisement reports.
- Develop, organize, and maintain files for students at each academic level and provide information and statistical data upon request to the Department and College.
- Develop and distribute a weekly newsletter to undergraduates, including opportunities for students to further their academic and professional goals.
- Attend College of Engineering advising meetings and professional development activities.
- Attend other relevant College, campus, and Tucson area meetings.
- Work with departmental undergraduate curriculum committees.
- Assist the academic team in developing and maintaining Advising D2L.
- Assess academic eligibility and satisfactory progress toward degree and identify current or potential problem areas.
- Assist students in identifying factors that contribute to roadblocks to academic progress.
- Refer students to appropriate campus resources.
- Apply appropriate retention strategies to support students' efforts.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Strong skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication, excellent grammar, composition, and proofreading.
- Ability to work in a team-based environment.
- Excellent organizational skills, ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and manage competing priorities.
- Ability to communicate with a diverse student and faculty population.
Minimum Qualifications - Bachelor's degree required.
- 1 year of relevant work experience required.
Preferred Qualifications- Previous experience with with UAccess and UA advisor tools.
- Experience coordinating special programs related to career placement, internships, and college honor programs.
- Experience with understanding University policies and procedures related to academic progression, and with generaleducation requirements.
