The Managing Director, Kamali i Well-Being is responsible for overall leadership, direction, and oversight of Liliuokalani Trust's innovative programs and demonstration projects to include
Early Childhood Development,
LT Ranch,
Puu Lei o Liliu,
Mālama Line, and
Virtual Counseling Programs. These programs are designed to provide a continuum of care from early childhood through opportunity youth to help Native Hawaiian kamalii (beneficiaries) thrive. The Managing Director, Kamalii Well-Being leads the design and development of all aspects of service programs, ensuring best practices and alignment with LT's strategic vision. In collaboration with other Managing Directors, this role contributes to the cohesion and integration of all LT programs and services in the best interest of our kamalii.
Program Operations and Administration- Oversees effective implementation of culturally competent and trauma-informed programming acutely focused on indigenous, Native Hawaiian youth.
- Ensures programs and services are implemented in alignment with best practices and LT's strategic vision.
- Conducts regular program assessments to ensure programs are adequately targeted, high-quality, efficient, and innovative. Works in partnership with other program leadership to implement systems that measure and track outcomes. As needed, will adapt operating models to ensure maximum impact and sustainability.
- Designs and leads the path to the creation of opportunities for innovative service and engagement, utilizing data, feedback, and cultural values and practices as compass. Fosters learning and development and is committed to continuous improvement in the delivery of direct services to LT beneficiaries.
- Supervises Program Leadership for LT specialized programs, including: Early Childhood Development, LT Ranch, Puu Lei o Liliu, Mālama Line, and Virtual Counseling Programs. Ensures the quality delivery of program services to LT beneficiaries, as well as overall management of daily operations at the service centers. Sets expectations, goals, and success measurements to evaluate the progression and effectiveness of all specialized programs and operations.
- Develops and maintains strategic alliances and collaborative partnerships with public and private organizations to foster integrated multi-disciplinary support systems.
- Oversees the development of budgets and tactics to optimize programs resources. Monitors the financial status of all program operations including the development of short and long range financial plans, operating budgets, and financial controls. Ensures organizational resources are allocated in a manner that most effectively and efficiently drives progress.
- Holds overall responsibility for the recruitment, development, and retention of program leaders and teammates. This includes partnering with People Operations where needed to observe diversity and inclusion in the hiring of quality talent, ensuring best practices in talent management and development, and applying engagement strategies to captivate and retain high performers.
Early Childhood Development- Supports the design and development of the Early Childhood initiative from the ground to its full staffing and operation in alignment with forecasted schedule. Adjusts operations and deadlines as changes and new developments occur. Leverages knowledge, experience, continuous research, and partnerships to ensure the Early Childhood Center is founded on best practices coupled with indigenous and Native Hawaiian frameworks as its base and source of resources.
- Oversees the development of policies and procedures for each core program and functional department at the EC Center, covering general administration, continued development, safety, and best practices in the implementation of early childhood programs as well as overall facility operations.
- Designs and proposes a sustainable business plan keeping the mission of the EC Center as the guiding objective, ensuring the operation develops and builds itself to provide best opportunities for opportunity youth Makua and young children aged 0-5 to succeed in kindergarten and earning a living wage.
- Stays updated with latest Early Childhood initiatives as well as state and federal laws and regulations to ensure the EC Center's services remain pedagogically competitive and legally compliant. Partners with Risk and Compliance to manage risk and safety practices.
LT Ranch- Oversees leadership at LT Ranch ensuring teammates are nurturing an internal culture that supports the mission and promotes accountability, communication, and collaboration across the organization.
- Oversees the design and implementation of all programs at the LT Ranch. Provides leadership and guidance to support analysis, budgeting, training, and evaluation of program goals, objectives and achievements. This includes oversight over programs supporting the care and welfare of animals on property ensuring prioritization of animal needs.
- Articulates and represents LT's history, philosophy and strategy for LT Ranch programs, internally and externally, through meetings, conferences, publications, and special projects and programs.
- Oversees PLOL program and initiatives, ensuring continuous design, development, and implementation of high quality and high impact services.
- Provides leadership support, coaching, and supervision for leadership and teammates. This includes the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines based on best practices and closely aligned with LT's strategic vision, goals, and objectives.
- Oversees the development and ongoing implementation of LT's community support line and telehealth/virtual, brief counseling therapy models, leveraging existing strengths and fostering ongoing skill development.
- Provides leadership support, coaching, and supervision. Develops, guides, and coaches leadership in the development of clinical skills and knowledge, including assessment and clinical treatment, understanding ethical considerations, and compliance with confidentiality laws in providing telehealth/virtual services.
- Engages with external community resources to develop and maintain partnerships that support effective information sharing and a solid referral directory. Participates in meetings with community resources as necessary to keep updated on resources and emerging efforts at developing resources.
- Ensures central screening contact and resource information is consistently updated on LT's webpage.
Other duties- Develops activity and performance reports on a quarterly basis and/or as required by Executive Leadership and Trustees.
- Collaborates with LT's Communication and Marketing team to promote all activities and initiatives for each specialized program.
- Accepts new assignments, helps team members, learns new skills, and strives to improve team and organization results.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Preferred education and experience:
- Master's degree in social work, education, or related field.
- At least 10 years of relevant experience in and knowledge in planning, design, implementation, and evaluation of youth programming serving vulnerable and at-risk populations, of which at least 5 years involve direct people management and supervision.
- At least 5 years of direct experience working on projects and/or project management.
- Demonstrated knowledge of direct practice, trauma-informed approaches, youth development, and quality assurance processes.
- Respects and relates well to people from varied backgrounds and is sensitive to group differences. Experience working with at-risk youth.
- Knowledge of NASW Code of Ethics and applicable state and federal laws regarding the provision of clinical social work.
- Knowledge of theories of biological, psychological and social development, diversity and cultural competency, interpersonal relationships, family and group dynamics, mental disorders, addictions, impacts of illness, trauma or injury and the effects of the physical, social and cultural environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in all phases of practice skill development to include but not limited to:
- Ability to design training and instructional materials and ability to train, coach and consult on clinical and cultural practices and interventions in casework and groupwork.
- Ability to quickly acquire necessary level of knowledge to support practice and program training needs across LT.
- Strong facilitative leadership and mentorship skills to lead, supervise, train, and evaluate teammates and create and sustain strong teams. Ability to plan and support the development of others in an educational setting.
- Program and project management skills (intermediate to advanced)
- Ability to effectively oversee a number of deliverables and manage them to timely completion; to identify priorities aligned with organizational needs when faced with competing and sometimes emergent demands for resources.
- Strong organizational, analytical, interpersonal, facilitation, presentation, strategic and creative problem-solving skills are essential.
