Position: Environmental Engineer Direct Reports: Individual Contributor Reports To: EHS Manager Salary Range: $110k to $125k Bonus: No Relocation: Regional Job Responsibilities: The Environmental Engineer is responsible for compliance-related activities in accordance with local, state, federal and company requirements. Research, design, plan, or perform engineering duties in the prevention, control, and remediation of environmental hazards using various engineering disciplines. Work may include waste treatment, site remediation, or pollution control technology. Guide the strategic improvement of the site’s Environmental Management System, to include maturing a robust culture, prioritizing operational compliance with various environmental reporting obligations focused on continuous improvement in support of systems, procedures, and sustainability initiatives. Collaborate with corporate and plant leadership to lead environmental permitting and compliance strategies, including leading the preparation of applications for environmental permits and plans that support current and future site operations. Work with the site operational teams and EHS staff to ensure air emissions, hazardous waste volumes, wastewater constituent loads and other environmental performance values are calculated and effectively managed. Guide revision and/or implementation of the site environmental compliance and management system, with associated auditing, to ensure adherence to the site’s ISO 14001 certification. Collaborate with and provide support to corporate initiatives/activities, including leading site-specific environmental sustainability data collection and management for external reporting (e.g., sustainability report, CDP, etc.). Prepare and deliver presentations, communications, and educational/training materials to plant personnel (e.g., leadership; line leaders; operators) to include environmental permitting, performance, and compliance status and actions, as necessary. Represent plant site and company in meetings with environmental agencies, local community groups, NGOs and other relevant external stakeholder interactions as needed. Collaborate in developing strategies and participate/lead negotiations with regulators, including permits and other appropriate activities in conjunction with corporate environmental and legal teams. Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or closely related degree required. Master’s degree and/or Professional Engineer’s license (or equivalent licenses) a plus. Minimum of 5 years of experience with managing Environmental responsibilities within a manufacturing environment, preferably chemical manufacturing. Experience in aspects of environmental compliance (e.g., air, water, waste) assurance and supporting complex manufacturing operations. Experience in managing synthetic minor air permit, RCRA small quantity generator waste management, and direct/indirect effluent discharge permits. Experience in managing Title V permitting/compliance is a must. Familiarity with environmental and sustainability programs (e.g., Scope 1 and 2 emissions reduction, waste reduction and recycling, reduction of water consumption). Qualifications and/or experience in transportation and storage of hazardous materials is desired. Positive regulatory agency interaction, with a demonstrated ability to manage/prioritize complex technical projects. Demonstrated ability to influence cross functional leaders and across site operations (e.g., supervisors, foreman, operators, etc.). Strategic thinker, innovative problem solver, able to lead and influence others in support of key environmental management system goals and site operational priorities.
