Position Overview:
The Director of Domestic Policy (Sustainability and Environmental Quality Policy) serves as a key advisor, issue expert and lobbyist for the NAM and its members on a range of issues, including chemicals use and manufacturing, legislation and regulations related to clean air and clean water, plastics and the circular economy, environmental justice, and more.
This position is responsible for analyzing legislative and regulatory proposals and working with the VP of Domestic Policy to develop and execute legislative and regulatory strategies on designated issues to advance manufacturers' priorities. This person will also be responsible for working closely with key internal stakeholders, including membership, public affairs and marketing, and legal.
The successful candidate has a track record of working effectively with policymakers on the designated issues and is able to analyze and communicate complex issues clearly and succinctly to a variety of audiences. Experience with public speaking, including engagement with the media, is preferred.
Key Responsibilities:
- Work proactively and collaboratively with other policy experts and internal groups to develop and execute advocacy strategies.
- Serve as a voice for manufacturers before relevant policymakers on Capitol Hill and in the Administration.
- Work closely with key leaders at the NAM's 14,000 member companies to identify policy priorities.
- Communicate with internal and external stakeholders about the NAM's policy work.
- Ensure that the NAM is responsive to the needs of manufacturers on the assigned policy issues.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 8+ years of related Capitol Hill, Executive Branch and/or Association policy development experience.
- Exceptional understanding of legislative and regulatory processes.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, quality and goal-driven environment.
Salary Range: $106,000 - $140,000 annually. The final salary offered will be based on qualifications and experience.
