WSP is currently initiating a search for an
Early Career Environmental Engineer for our
Merrimack, New Hampshire office. A successful candidate will be involved in projects with our WSP USA Earth & Environment Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.
The role of an Environmental Engineer is to carry out the planning, design, and modeling of site grading, surface preparation, stormwater, stormwater management systems, preparation of technical documents and providing construction oversight. Overall, you will be working with teams of engineers, architects, and scientists on a wide variety of projects including site development, infrastructure, landfills, stream restoration, and soil/groundwater remediation.
Your Impact - Work within multidiscipline design teams on wide variety of environmental projects, including site development, infrastructure, landfills, stream restoration, soil and groundwater remediation
- Prepare engineering design calculations and design reports
- Prepare grading and drainage design and stormwater models
- Assist on preparation of project permitting documents for erosion and sediment control and stormwater for local, state, and federal permits
- Read, comprehend, and prepare construction drawings and technical specifications
- Use and improve knowledge of construction materials to develop construction details
- Perform construction inspection and oversight activities
- Contribute excellent verbal and written communication skills and organizational abilities
- Interact with coworkers, clients, and prospective clients while conducting work in a professional and ethical manner
- Willingness to take ownership of assigned tasks and take initiative to support with additional tasks
- Strong dedication to maintaining a safe work environment and promoting company safety culture
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours if/as required.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites, with approximately 10% overnight travel expected.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Environmental, Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 0-1 years environmental design experience.
- AutoCAD knowledge.
- Strong writing skills.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
- Familiarity with the concepts of reducing and eliminating the use or generation of hazardous substances, processes, or products.
- Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Ability to work independently under general supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
- Must have personal transportation.
- Ability to remain on feet for extended periods of time either stationary or walking.
- Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions, including heat and cold.
- Must be able to pass a HAZWOPER physical/Fit for Duty Exam.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications: - Master's Degree in Environmental, Engineering or closely related discipline.
- 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER Training is a plus.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Familiarity with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS).
- Prior internship related to the degree of study and the specific engineering discipline.
- A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.
