Civil Engineer - 3D Construction (North America)
Karlos, a revolutionary concrete printing system, is seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to lead the structural design and execution of innovative 3D-printed construction projects. This role combines both code-compliant structural engineering and hands-on project management, supporting residential, commercial, and infrastructure developments. This position reports to the Director of Business Development in the US, with regular collaboration with the global team in Germany.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the structural design, analysis, and execution of Putzmeister's 3D-Printed (C3DP) wall systems, ensuring compliance with North American building codes and industry standards (ACI, ASCE, IBC/IRC/UFC).
- Develop and manage engineering plans, structural calculations, and detailed drawings for a range of projects, from residential to large-scale infrastructure, ensuring technical precision and scalability.
- Own and oversee the full project lifecycle, from design & structural planning to on-site implementation, ensuring adherence to construction best practices, timelines, and quality benchmarks.
- Perform field testing, building inspections, and structural diagnostics to assess system performance and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with R&D and technical teams to optimize Karlos for the North American market, ensuring structural integrity and compliance with local norms.
- Serve as the technical liaison with architects, contractors, and industry partners, ensuring smooth communication and alignment on project goals.
- Prepare and review engineering reports, architectural and structural drawings, ensuring alignment with both regulatory standards and company objectives.
- Participate in on-site activities, guiding printing teams and conducting site observations to ensure successful project execution.
- Support business development by attending industry events and trade shows, representing Karlos's technical capabilities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- 7+ years of experience in civil or structural engineering, with strong project management and operational construction expertise.
- Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline, with broad knowledge of structural design, construction practices, and building codes.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- In-depth knowledge of North American building codes and standards (ACI, ASCE, IBC/IRC/UFC) and experience in ensuring compliance throughout the design and construction process.
- Proficient in concrete structural design, structural analysis tools, and computer-aided design software (AutoCAD, Rhino, Revit).
- Practical experience in field testing, building inspections, and troubleshooting structural issues on active job sites.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings, including cladding, curtain wall systems, and waterproofing.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners, and construction stakeholders.
- Highly organized with the ability to meet critical deadlines, both in design and project execution.
Bonus Experience:
- Experience with 3D concrete printing technologies or similar innovative construction methods.
- Background in sustainable building practices and an understanding of general complexities in adopting new technologies in construction also on a global scale and associated differences.
- A strategic mindset with experience in business development or technology adoption within the construction sector.
