Duties:
Plan and lay out work performing various skilled bench and machine operations. Select prescribed or required materials. Set up and operate a normal range of Tool room machines to perform necessary operations on a wide variety of tool and die components or machine parts. Assemble manufactured parts to build specialty machinery and fixtures.
Perform a wide range of skilled duties to lay out, construct, repair, modify, and alter a wide variety of machine parts, tools, dies, fixtures, and components to remarkably close tolerances including ordinary to experimental development work and production tooling.
Make necessary mathematical calculations. Construct and/or repair production machines and all types of dies, fixtures, and other precision tooling. Finish machine, grind, fit, and assemble components. Work with Engineering to design and develop, modify, and improve custom machinery and fixtures for production needs.
Repair and rebuild tools, dies, and machines. Support production needs with machine and tooling improvements, troubleshooting to diagnose problems, adjust, repair, and/or replace worn or defective parts, make new parts as required, and adjust and test operations.
Design and make special fixtures for use in producing or repairing production tools. Work with Engineering personnel to assist in the design and development of new, modified, or improved products. Produce samples and prototypes using standard and accepted tool room methods and practices.
Maintain equipment and work area in a clean and orderly condition. Detect and report any equipment malfunctions, unusual situations, or other problems. Follow all safety rules, regulations, and practices.
Climate:
Demanding, fast-paced position resulting from deadline pressures, simultaneous competing demands, and changing priorities.
Preferred Characteristics:
Minimum 5 years' experience in a tool room environment. Experience with Prototrak milling, NC / Manual Lathe, and surface grinding preferred.
Ability to interpret and use complicated drawings, specifications, tables, and precision measuring instruments.
Experience in and/or interest in learning OD grinding, Waterjet, EDM, or Welding.
