Based in the Pavillion NY area , this position reports to the Regional Director, Health & Safety and support our operations across Western NY.
What You'll Get to Do:
Implement Safety Programs : Work with area management to effectively implement company and area safety programs and requirements. Regularly review employee safety programs to assess their adequacy and effectiveness.
Enhance Safety Processes: Develop and implement processes and product safety features to minimize employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
Conduct Compliance Inspections: Oversee participation in Federal and State Safety and Health inspections, provide inspectors with necessary documents, and identify safety measures. Coordinate loss prevention inspections.
Perform Safety Audits: Regularly inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and rectify potential hazards. Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain required documentation. Recommend and oversee the installation of safety devices on machinery. Evaluate the adequacy of actions taken to correct health inspection violations.
Investigate Incidents: Investigate industrial incidents, injuries, and occupational diseases to determine root causes and preventive measures. Report and review findings from accident investigations and facility inspections. Interview management and employees to gather information about workplace incidents.
Train Employees: Collaborate with site management to ensure all employees, visitors, and contractors are properly trained in job hazards and safe work practices. Assist in developing and administering plant safety training programs. Ensure accurate recordkeeping of safety compliance and employee training records.
Stay Informed: Maintain up-to-date knowledge of best practices and changes in regulations and policies.
Advise on Equipment Purchases: Provide input on the purchase of safety-related equipment.
Maintain Safety Systems: Ensure safety systems are maintained and data is accurate. Complete required reporting for corporate or group analysis of safety statistics in a timely and accurate manner.
Review Plans: Review plans and specifications for new machinery or equipment to ensure all safety requirements are met.
Develop and Implement Safety Programs: Create, execute, and support comprehensive safety programs and training. Provide technical support, interface with regulatory agencies, and ensure meticulous recordkeeping at both area and plant levels. Regularly review employee safety programs to assess their adequacy and effectiveness. Ensure plant safety programs align with corporate safety policies and practices.
Who We Are Looking For
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, with 5+ years of directly related experience. Professional certification such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP) and/or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) preferred or willingness to work towards certification.
Regulatory Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of applicable laws, MSHA/OSHA/DOT regulations, safe work practices, and accident prevention programs. Basic understanding of state workers' compensation, company general liability, and vehicular insurance requirements/standards.
Technical Knowledge: Understanding of materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and techniques for maximizing effective manufacturing and distribution of goods.
Technical Skills: Proficiency with tools and technologies used on the job, including Word, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint and company database programs.
Communication Skills: High level of written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal relationship skills.
Training Experience: Prior experience conducting effective training meetings in front of large audiences.
Work Environment
This position supports our aggregates, hot mix asphalt, and ready-mix concrete operations.
Work is both in the office and out in the plants.
Must be able to walk on uneven surfaces, climb and crawl regularly.
Willingness and ability to travel sites across Western NY on a regular basis
