Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking to add a Staff Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Engineer to its Specialty Engineering team located in Huntsville, AL or Roy, UT in support of the Sentinel (GBSD) program. This position is for a systems engineer experienced in design for EMI/EMC compliance. The selected candidate will be expected to lead various efforts within the E3 Design Support team including design reviews, analysis, and E3 CDRLs development. The E3 engineer should feel comfortable providing critical, actionable feedback of system designs as well as giving regular status updates to program leadership. They should be able to develop and apply advanced technical principles, techniques, and concepts regarding EMI/EMC designs. The selected candidate will be responsible for leadership within the design support team providing oversight on projects for 3-4 engineers ensuring technical quality and on-time delivery of E3 design products in support of multiple IPTs across the program.
In this position, you will be expected to:
- Apply advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts in EMI/EMC design.
- Work on unusually complex technical problems and provide innovative solutions.
- Ensure systems and equipment meets MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464 and other compliance requirements.
- Share extensive knowledge in the design and implementation of EMI/EMC controls, to include transient suppression, filter design, circuit board and flextape layout, cable shield design, equipment housing design and system grounding principles.
- Provide sound technical guidance in system requirements development, management, analysis, and traceability, to translate customer requirements and CONOPS into systems requirements, and further allocate to lower-level requirements.
- Consult/Lead reviews of technical schematics, drawings, plans and/or specifications.
- Oversee and support system technical performance measurement definition and tracking.
- Support the E3 Design Support Lead by providing tasking, oversight, and strong technical guidance of EMI work products to a team of 3-4 E3 engineers.
- Review and integrate work products developed by others.
- Provide regular mentorship / leadership to teams on EMI design topics.
Basic Qualifications:
- Experience working with MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-464
- Familiarity with E3 CDRLs including EMI/EMC control plans, E3 Integration and Analysis Reports, and E3 Verification Procedures and Reports.
- Experience with EMI design support/analysis for EMI critical design features.
- Ability to meet program technical, cost, and schedule milestones
- Experience leading EMI design efforts with integrated product teams (IPTs).
- Ability to present EMI design recommendations to IPT leads, program boards, and customers.
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or other relevant STEM degree.
- Experience: 14+ years of related work experience with BS. 12+ years of related work experience with Master's degree, 9 years of related work experience with a PhD.
- Ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Active DoD Secret Clearance.
- Prior experience performing EMI/EMC design work on a missile program.
- Prior experience performing EMI/EMC design work on fixed ground installations.
- Prior experience in E3 related areas such as ESD, HERO, TEMPEST.
- 5+ years experience leading technical teams in support of program execution to meet cost and schedule.
- Technical areas include Space and Launch Vehicles and associated Ground Control Systems.
- Experience in modeling of EM effects and use of EM effects simulation tools such as Spice, MATLAB, ANSYS HFSS/EMA3D/Maxwell, CST, or other codes.

This position's standard work schedule is a 9/80. The 9/80 schedule allows employees who work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday to take every other Friday off.
Salary Range: $142,500.00 - $213,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
