Science | Service | SustainabilityThis position is located in the Recycling Education, Technical Assistance, & Trust Fund Administration Section of the Mining and Solid Waste Management Division of the Bureau of Land and Waste Management. The project manager for the Don't Waste Food SC (DWFSC) oversees the development and implementation of the outreach campaign. The campaign - the first statewide initiative of its kind - is designed to: Increase the awareness of the economic, environmental, and social impacts of wasting food and inspire individuals, communities, restaurants, caterers, hospitals, schools, colleges/universities, and other organizations to take action to reduce wasted food through prevention and donation and recover unwanted food through composting and other practices.
Job Duties:- As project manager for the DWFSC campaign develops and implements work plans that include goals and objectives, budget, and overall coordination with internal and external partners.
- Promotes the campaign through media and social media; collects and posts success stories. (e.g., public service announcements, billboards, local, state, and national presentations, and workshops). Keeps DWFSC web pages and printed material updated.
- Serves as lead on community engagement and secures DWFSC ambassadors that will become local champions. This responsibility will include local and regional training workshops, a tool kit and recognition program.
- Works with schools, colleges, and universities to set up food waste prevention initiatives.
- Works with businesses, restaurants, hospitals, prisons, and other organizations to set up food waste prevention initiatives.
- Works with local food banks and food rescue organizations to improve donations.
- Measures campaign use and results (e.g., Ambassadors trained, participation in the campaign, analyzing reported disposal and composting numbers, assisting with Office grant programs that target schools, colleges, universities, and more.
- Performs other duties as needed.
Minimum and Additional Requirements A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences* or related technical field; or an associate degree in the natural or physical sciences* or related technical field and two years of environmental health or related experience; or high school diploma and four years of environmental health or related experience.
