Job SummaryThis position participates in the City's recycling program with responsibility for providing customer service to the incoming public and material handling of recyclable items. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.
Essential Job Functions- Maintain regular and prompt attendance, physically present to work.
- Performs other similar or related duties as assigned.
- Employee may be required to work beyond normal business hours at night and/or on weekends.
- Sort and separate materials to include paper, plastic, metal, glass, tires, and other recyclable material.
- Clean recycling yard by sweeping, raking, picking up broken glass, and loose paper debris.
- Record logs of recycled materials.
- Responsible for delivery and pick-up of recycle containers and dumpsters to participants in the city's recycling program at various City buildings.
- Performs routine maintenance of assigned equipment and trucks.
Minimum Qualifications & Requirements- Must have a high school diploma; or equivalent.
- Have one (1) to three (3) years of experience in the field.
- Must have a current valid Class "C" Driver's License and be insurable.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Should possess strong analytical skills, ability to manage time efficiently and effectively.
- Good interpersonal skills for interacting and coordinating with the public.
- Ability to carry out work assignments in a detailed, efficient, and safe manner.
- Ability to carry out job duties under adverse weather conditions in a safe manner.
- Ability to read and interpret directions on maps.
- Good work organizational skills.
Working Conditions/Physical Demands- Work requires employee physically present and on time, as scheduled, moderate intermittent physical strength and effort daily, such as, lifting heavy objects (up to 60 Ibs.), carrying the object(s) and stacking them or placing them in a vehicle or storage area. In addition, pulling, pushing, standing, or walking for extended periods of time.
- Position requires minimal motor skills for activities such as the use of cleaning equipment and the operation of a motor vehicle.
- Position requires routine reading of documents for general understanding and the operation of department motor vehicles and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
