About the Role
As a Senior Formulation Chemist, you will be an integral part of the Product Development team at JPMS. Reporting to the EVP of Research & Development, you will focus on formulating innovative hair color, care and styling concepts, lines and reactive products.
What You Will Do:
Innovation & Collaboration:
- Develop new hair colors, care and styling formulations, setting new industry standards for quality and innovation
- Create prototypes, monitor pilots to full-scale production, ensuring the transition is efficient, cost-effective, and adheres to the highest quality standards
- Collaborate with a diverse array of cross functional teams ensuring hair color product development aligns with market demands and company goals
- Drive the pursuit of hair color, care and styling innovations, leveraging deep industry knowledge and analytical skills to keep JPMS at the forefront of professional hair color, care and styling
Laboratory Analysis:
- Maintain strict compliance with GMP and GLP standards in the lab, championing best practices in every aspect of the formulation process
- Travel when necessary to our JPMS Manufacturing facility, and third-party contract manufacturers to support production team with scale up of new formulation, compounding/production issues, QC issues, etc.
- Troubleshoot formula, shade and raw material issues, finding replacements whenever necessary
- Work on-site at JPMS Product Innovation Center and new product laboratory
- Perform all relevant formula related testing
Data Management:
- Facilitate upstream communication collaboration with team
- Monitor and ensure the quality of all new products in terms of stability, compatibility, micro, safety, and regulatory requirements

Requirements:
What You'll Need:
Skills:
- Formulation skills in all hair color, care and styling technologies
- Raw material knowledge (especially dyes), FDA/EU/UK cosmetic directive guidelines
- Color perception and color matching skills
- Strong knowledge and understanding of compounding/production equipment and facilities
- Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness, always looking for ways to improve and promote quality
- Observe safety and security procedures, determine appropriate action beyond guidelines, report potentially unsafe conditions and use equipment and materials properly
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in science (i.e. chemistry, cosmetic chemistry, chemical engineering or related science) required
Experience:
- 5+ years' work experience in professional hair color formulation required
- 7+ years' work experience in professional hair color formulation strongly preferred
Competitive Compensation:
- The expected base salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000. The exact base salary is determined by various factors including geographic location, experience, skills, and education.
- Discretionary Bonus Plan: This position is also eligible for participation in the company discretionary bonus plan, based on personal performance and company results.
