This OpportunityWSP is currently seeking an
Early Career Environmental Engineer or to join our Environmental Compliance Team out of our
Durham, NC office.
Takes part in providing local technical assistance for the development of processes and infrastructure relating to water supply, hazardous or solid waste disposal, air emission sources, pollution control, and preserving the quality of the environment by averting the contamination and degradation of air, water, and land resources. Generates accurate and concise documentation, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards.
Your Impact - Support air quality environmental compliance-related projects, including gathering field data from job sites through personnel interviews, records review, and direct measurement.
- Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate and precise measurements.
- Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems and field/work site notebook.
- Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures.
- Conduct scientific and engineering calculations, analyze and interpret technical data, and create clear, concise reports and presentations.
- Provide technical memorandums and reports, ensuring thorough review and accurate summarization of environmental regulations.
- Offer organizational support to Durham office staff in a range of in-office tasks, which may vary and include reviewing compliance requirements and preparing project documentation.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct, policies, and procedures.
- Complete training on assigned tasks to develop expertise.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Who You AreRequired Qualifications - Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- 0 to 1 year of relevant post-education experience.
- Familiarity with relevant environmental laws, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex regulatory and scientific information clearly to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
- Attention to detail, critical thinking, and strong organizational skills.
- Proven capability to multi-task effectively, prioritize tasks, and work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic work environment.
- Self-motivated with a problem-solving mindset, capable of meeting business objectives under general supervision.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
Preferred Qualifications: - Master's Degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Engineer in Training Certification.
- Knowledge of industry-standard environmental compliance practices and record-keeping requirements.
- Prior internship or related experience in environmental science or engineering.
- A member of and/or active participant in local professional practice organizations.
