Position Summary:The Aquatic Lead will assist in planning, supervising, and implementing activities in the Aquatic Department and may be required to lifeguard and teach.
Attendance at all in-service training is required.Duties and Responsibilities:- Supervise aquatic staff, including instructors and lifeguards, as assigned. Hands-on lifeguarding and assisting other aquatic instructional programs as assigned.
- Supervise swim instructors and monitor swim lessons. Hands-on teaching and assisting other aquatic instructional programs as assigned.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the swim lesson programs as directed by the Aquatics Manager, Safety Coordinator, and Activities Coordinator.
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the aquatic programs and facilities, including special events as directed by the Aquatics Manager, Safety Coordinator, and Activities Coordinator.
- Considerately and patiently enforce RJKCCC rules to provide a safe environment for all members, visitors, and employees. Caution swimmers regarding unsafe areas and actions. Maintain order in swimming areas.
- Assist in training and instruction of recommended TSA Aquatic staff for Instructor-level Certifications. This training will lend to, but not be limited to, their ability to train and teach other lifeguards and TSA staff.
- Must be able to analyze situations and adopt a quick and effective course of action; maintain constant observation of an assigned area to identify any signs of danger.
- Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning.
- Provide first aid, rescue breathing, and CPR when needed.
- Maintain and review records and reports as assigned.
- Inspect and supervise staff cleaning and maintenance of swimming pool areas, locker rooms, restrooms, trash cans, cleaning equipment, aquatic equipment storage areas, and other areas as assigned, as well as performing cleaning as needed.
- Provide great customer service to the community; see that all customers, clients, and members are given prompt and courteous service.
- Maintain a professional attitude and approach to problem-solving.
- Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers in person and over the phone.
- See that Liability injuries are reported timely and according to procedure.
- Maintain a safe working environment. Report all harmful problems with facilities to the Aquatic Manager.
- Must wear standard apparel as prescribed by the Aquatics Manager and exhibit a professional appearance at all times while on duty.
- Other aquatic assignments as required.
General Qualifications and Proficiencies:- 18 years of age, preferable
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English
- Must be able to work varied shifts, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and split shifts
- Must attend 50% or more of Aquatic Lead meetings
- Experience working with the public.
- Demonstrate the ability to relate positively and energetically with staff, clients, and members and the Ability to be self-motivated and work independently and in a team environment. Must also have effective communication skills and engage positively with the public.
- One year prior experience as a head lifeguard, Lifeguard II, or equivalent, is highly desirable.
- Must have excellent computer skills; with working experience with Microsoft Office products, including Word and Excel.
- Meet all health and safety regulations as defined by the Health Department, as well as TSA.
- Have a philosophy of education and child development, which is consistent with that of the Center and TSA.
- Can work with children, parents, and staff in a capacity of leadership, counseling and education.
- Must have prior to start of employment and maintain current certifications.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard certification
- American Red Cross Water Park Lifeguard certification
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Management certification within nine months of hire
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification within nine months of hire
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification to include AED
- American Red Cross Oxygen Administration certification
- American Red Cross Blood Borne Pathogens within 90 days of hire
- Other preferred skills and certifications include:
- CPO certification
- Emergency Response or other advanced first aid is desirable.
Physical Requirements:- Must maintain a minimum fitness level to be able to accomplish the following:
- 300-yard swim in less than 15 minutes
- Tread water for 2 minutes without the use of hands
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time while always remaining alert.
- The position requires proficient swimming ability and endurance. Must perform the proper application of rescue and first-aid techniques. This position requires the ability to properly extract victims from the pool (s) to the deck and the ability to lift and carry at least 40 lbs., sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, jog, pull, push, balance, reach, and the ability to use fingers and hands.
- The position will require operating equipment such as a computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
- Must be in good physical and mental health, capable of meeting the demands of all aquatic areas.
