Part-Time Vegetable GardenerABOUT CARROLLWOOD FARMSCarrollwood Farms is a family estate farm encompassing over 4,000 acres in Stokes and Rockingham Counties, North Carolina. We are dedicated to sustainable agriculture and operate various divisions, including vegetable farming, agronomy, construction, grounds maintenance, and soon, hospitality. We are passionate about giving back to the community, and in 2023, we donated over 2,200 pounds of fresh produce from our gardens.
Position OverviewThis position is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in vegetable production on a working farm. You will report to the Garden Manager and be responsible for a variety of tasks to ensure the success of our crops, from planting to harvest.
Responsibilities- Participate in the selection, use, and storage of farming supplies, tools, and equipment, following safe handling practices.
- Assist in greenhouse operations, including seeding, maintaining clean growing conditions, and transplanting seedlings.
- Provide meticulous care for our vegetable and flower crops, including planting, watering, weeding, pest management, and monitoring for disease.
- Plant, nurture, and harvest vegetables to ensure optimal quality and yield.
- Assist with proper transportation, storage, and labeling of harvested produce.
- Prepare garden beds for future plantings, utilizing sustainable practices.
- Ensure gardens are kept weed-free through manual and organic methods.
- Participate in the collection and maintenance of our compost system.
- Operate and care for various farm equipment, including tractors, planters, and harvesting machinery (training provided).
- Maintain a positive and professional attitude and be a team player.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Garden Manager.
Qualifications- Prior experience working in a farm or greenhouse setting is preferred.
- A strong work ethic, a passion for agriculture, and the ability to learn quickly are essential.
- Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are a plus.
- Ability to perform physical tasks required for farmwork, including lifting up to 75 pounds.
